Most will feel as if they've already seen Chambers before. Those new to such substandard beyond-the-grave stuff, on the other hand, will wish they'd never seen it in the first place.

Chambers [is] Netflix's new and not very good supernatural drama.

'Chambers' just isn't worth your time.

I bailed after four very long hours in which I took a variation on the note "This should have just been a movie" about a dozen times.

The series worst elements threaten to drown out the promise of the concept and the strengths of its cast with redundant scares and painfully protracted pacing.

Chambers gives me the impression that Netflix wanted to have a series like Twin Peaks but at some point they told the showrunners to 'not make it so difficult' [Full review in Spanish]

You have to watch the first two episodes of the new Netflix series Chambers. And you maybe shouldn't watch anything after that.

We're still waiting for an answer to the mystery; we're still waiting for a reason to invest in these people or this story; we're still just waiting, and in a post-"Gypsy" era, who has time for that?

The ingredients are there for a loopy body-horror freakout, but this series' pulse stays damnably faint, even when it should be sending yours through the roof.

For a series that's all about a heart, there seems to be a distinct lack of heart put into it.

Even as the series foregrounds ideas of racial and cultural erasure and forced assimilation, it struggles to turn them into the compelling, propulsive narrative they deserve.

Trying to combine a supernatural mystery-thriller with a coming-of-age melodrama, Rachel and her collaborators don't manage to locate the pleasures of either.

Is it horror? Sometimes... But the horror is not sustained, and too often the moments come and go in a flash, collapsing into anticlimax when the story resumes its crab walk towards coherence.

As things stand, it's a derivative, badly paced, supernatural slog that substitutes jump-cuts for actual shocks, and Sasha's extensive nail art for character development and delivers little in the way of surprise - or frankly, even expected - twists.

Either a 90-minute movie padded out over 10 episodes or a five-season run of an in-depth series brutally hacked down to 10 episodes. I'm not sure which.

Sasha is a little-seen character on TV: a teenage girl who isn't always pleasant or likable. When Chambers folds this perspective into the narrative...it [is] doing something challenging, confrontational and quietly revolutionary

Ten episodes just seems too long for any heart to suffer this story.

The thin story gets stretched even thinner, and the occasional creepy moments aren't nearly enough to sustain it.
April 19, 2019
There are moments late in the season that demonstrate the kind of gravitational pull that good horror can generate, but for the most part, the series claws at its inspirations, making confused and superficial gestures toward the works it imitates.
