The Royal Navy's Southern Diving Unit are called to the middle of a housing estate in Worthing, where a house clearance has uncovered an unexploded German incendiary shell that has been sitting on the owner's mantelpiece for thirty years. Alderney's 2,000 residents are totally reliant on the cargo ship teams who bring them their weekly delivery of goods. But as the crane at their port has a maximum lift of 19 tonnes, it's touch and go whether one item will make it off the ship. Experienced young sailor Harry Reynolds has invested most of his inheritance on a 25 foot tall ship that is nearly 100 years old. The ship is to be his new home but also at the heart of a new sailing school he's planning to set up in Dorset.
