Chapelwaite: Season 1 (2021)

Season 1
Chapelwaite

Critics Consensus

Chapelwaite's drab proceedings are stretched a bit thin over ten episodes, but those looking for an atmospheric whodunit with a few genuine frights could do worse.

The atmosphere was interesting but I couldn't get through the first episode. The writing is just so poor. The dialogue is awkward and painful, and despite a few good supporting characters, the acting isn't very engaging. I wanted to like this, but it's a miss.

A waste of eight or so hours of my life. It only gets one star as I love Stephan King. If it were possible to give negative stars, it would be a more accurate review. The first word that describes the series is Ponderous. I am not sure what I hated more. The under-lit night scenes where it was close to impossible to tell what was going on, or the direction given to the actors to follow the trend of whispering their lines, as if that somehow imparts more importance. Adrian Brody wins the award for looking earnest for the most extended amount of time in any series. (This is not a compliment). The laundry list of failings go beyond this mere sampling. On the last note there was this undercurrent of depression that permeated the shows. It was akin to listening to a James Taylor album for hours on end.

It was good I'd definitely recommend it even though the finale is a cliffhanger (in my opinion)

The show has production values and Adrian Brody, so it starts out promising enough, but midway, it falls into the current fad of mistaking horror for religion, and it just drags on and on and on. If you stick around for the end - be warned - it gets even worse - as Brody's character takes longer to die than any soprano in an opera.

I did enjoy the series but it was slow and could have either been done I'm fewer episodes or several 2 hr. more intense chapters. The characters were all extremely involving and well acted but just not used enough to build up the story. The main.characters of the Captain and his children were extremely well done and were what made the series suspenseful. My biggest complaint was the irritating way so many of the characters and Adrian B constantly seemed to be whispering all their dialog to the point I had to put on captioning to understand what was being said.

I really liked it! It kept you in suspense and wishing that the next Sunday was already there. I wish that it had more episodes and more seasons.

Love that it took a few episodes to figure out exactly what evil force we're dealing with. Is it werewolf, mummy, headless horseman, vampire, dreaming.......slow moving at times, but often character building, and back story foundation. Costumes and scenery are very well done. Adrien Brody, always been a fan and he doesn't disappoint. Lot of old and new talent in other roles. It's stimulating and engaging. Nice twist on what we all know about the this particular evil.... It's not Lost Boys, no is it as glamorous as Interview with. Worth watching without a doubt. Multiple story lines, all of which are well written. The Hunger set in the 1850's. Watch it for yourself and see.

Very underrated show that is worth a watch.

This is a very good adaption of Stephen King`s classic story Salem`s Lot. There are many things which could be done better or worse according to never satisfied judgmental mind but if you watch it with open mind and heart this will be a truly satisfying journey into a darkness of subconsciousness and the resulting liberating openeness. No shallow human relationships here and emotional drama so typical for many TV shows but rather deep, haunting and scary reflection of our own fears and conditionings. Scenery and acting is superb btw. Not TV show for weak minded mind you.

Atmospheric and riveting. The story is lush with just enough creep in it, and Adrien Brody is gritty, elegant, and sympathetic as a downtrodden Dad who is dealing with a bewildering supernatural situation in what should've been his "dream" home.
