With renewed interest in the 33-year-old disaster has come a curious sense of moralizing proprietorship - which makes you wonder what, exactly, people are getting from the miniseries.

This isn't just a gripping five-part disaster film but an examination of Soviet news-speak in its late-stage death throes. It's intelligent, at times intricate, explanatory journalism, especially about nuclear power technology.

Watching "Chernobyl" is like getting radiation sickness. It gets under your skin and you don't realize it until its too late. The series is absolutely outstanding. It is so immersive it could be a documentary except for the recognizable actors. One of the most enthralling intense mini-series in ages.

This five star rating speaks for itself. To consolidate all of the specifics of the disaster, the accounts of survivors and family members, then translate it into a five-part miniseries is no easy feat. The filming is stunning, the direction and screenplays are exemplary, and the cast is magnificent. Chernobyl is one of the best miniseries of the 2010s without question.
