As the show becomes more and more surreal, it only becomes more relatable.

Considering the international fanfare that Fleabag has attracted, it seems rather unfair that, despite winning awards and critical praise, Chewing Gum didn't quite become such watercooler TV. This second series definitely deserves it.

Apr 11, 2017 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

Chewing Gum is a show predicated on and revolving around the singular charm of Michaela Coel, its lead actor and creator, and that fact is recommendation enough: Coel, as Tracey Gordon, is an unmitigated star.

Just tune in and savour some near flawless writing and genuinely top drawer comedy. And there's a rather neat twist to enjoy at the end, too...

A constant blithering surprise, and thus to be truly cherished in TV-land.

But the brilliance of Chewing Gum lies in its ability to make this all gruesomely, brilliantly funny, pushing boundaries only to gleefully burst through them and move on to the next misadventure, largely consequence-free.

What sets Chewing Gum apart, of course, is Coel, her creation and her performance. Hilariously filthy, there is nowhere she - and it - won't go: down there, in here (well, if it were not for Connor's issues), on that.

Top Critic

As long as she keeps covering up her insecurities with bluster, fantastic lies and some of television's funniest meltdowns, Chewing Gum will be worth a binge.

Apr 7, 2017 | Full Review…

It's hard to pin down, so Chewing Gum might be described as a glorious Frankenstein of some of the most successful comedies in recent years - incidentally all driven by women, too.
