In the span of 10 days, artist/activist Rose McGowan was arrested, met with former President Barack Obama, and became one of Time magazine's "People of the Year," all while navigating the minefield of those trying to silence her. This docu reflects a dramatically changing world. It follows McGowan as she readies her memoir/manifesto, "Brave," for release. This is McGowan's world: the art, the ROSEARMY social media platform, her special punk brand of activism and the music she makes to heal. By going up against the Hollywood machine, McGowan has shown true courage in the face of adversity and this documentary goes behind the scenes of her tumultuous and fascinating life. She processes, in almost real time, the massive social change she has helped usher in as well as fights back against those who have hurt so many, including her.

As Hollywood continues to grapple with allegations of sexual harassment and assault, Citizen Rose shows a woman trying to fight back by speaking up and encouraging others to find their voices, which is a pretty powerful message. Go to Full Review

The very things that make Citizen Rose an unstable, claustrophobic, occasionally self-indulgent movie also make it an excellent window in what it's like for a person to be distorted by sexual violence and objectification. Go to Full Review
