Critic Reviews for Cobra Season 1

Fun nonsense... The blend of political drama and apocalyptic horror is a bit messy here, but not disastrous.

It ought to be well-oiled nonsense. Instead, it creaks and clunks along, its rusty machinery visible at every turn.

It's fine for the first couple of episodes, which I found I couldn't stop watching because of the sheer torque of any drama that combines this cast with a national disaster, a personal tragedy and a secret fling.

As the characters assert themselves, the show exerts a surprisingly tight grip on the viewer's attention, thanks primarily to its gleefully jaundiced portrait of backroom political machinations.

The series is enjoyable. It is one of these shows that, despite its defects, if you enter it you want to see how it continues episode by episode. [Full Review in Spanish]

If nothing else, you'd want to tune in to Cobra for its cast.

Frankly, it's a big relief when the lights finally go out, because Armageddon has never looked as uneventful and lacking in bite.

Jan 21, 2020 | Full Review…

Nevertheless, even though everything moves swiftly indoors, there's enough cash down the back of the sofa for handsome backdrops of Downing Street, Whitehall, an empty London - and, crucially, for a fine cast.

Jan 21, 2020 | Full Review…

So this is a narrative about an urgent situation told with no urgency whatsoever.

Jan 21, 2020 | Rating: 1/5 | Full Review…

It's not meant to be funny but I laughed so hard I got hiccups.

Jan 21, 2020 | Rating: 2/5 | Full Review…

No-one watches disaster thrillers for the dialogue. They are supposed to be cheesy and overblown. What we are here for is the "what if" and the spectacle, and COBRA looks like it will deliver on both fronts.

Audience Reviews for Cobra: Season 1

Were this a symphonic orchestra, half of the musicians would be playing the same note while the other half stand up looking at them. Magnificent cast in a series that fails to establish a strong central thread and pull it through the entire series. Tense scenarios crescendo into ... meetings and people watching screens. This series seriously has blue balls. There are hundreds of protesters and insurgents, but we know nothing about them -- they are simply "angry mob" and nothing goes any deeper -- we don't know any of their stories or personalities, other than just being told what "intelligence" finds out about a few of them.

What could have been polished drama, touching on social and political issues with intelligence and empathy somehow ended up being a jarring collection of buzzwords and stereotypes that will leave you feeling contaminated. If you have ever wondered what would a TV show look like if it was written by Nigel Farage after binging Madam Secretary and Okkupert look no further...

COBRA... binged watched in one dat after I initially was gonna pace myself between episodes..but it was TOO GOOD to do that. Excellent cast and writing that leaves things calm for a moment and then has you gripping your seat through a scene! Stellar all around.

If your looking for something gripping and a storyline that'll keep you guessing, then keep looking. The production company clearly had free reigns of the credit card. The effects are spot on, the plane crash sequence and aftermath are well designed as are the images of London loosing power. The range of actors on offer is phenomenal. Clearly the casting director wanted to get a few big names on board to bring in the figures. However, the script is absolutely dire. The script is something you'd expect from a low budget movie on the SyFi channel. The musical score is a little to dramatic for some of the scenes. I found myself paying more attention to the music than what was actually being said. The premise is awesome and very original so I'm hoping episode 2 delivers on the possible outcomes of the catastrophe that's unfolding. Overall. It's ok. It's not bad. But it's certainly not good.

Starts well but goes downhill rapidly, turned it off after episode 4. Lousy writing
