Critics Consensus

Black & White's clunky format fumbles the fundamentals of storytelling, but this hybrid series nonetheless scores a touchdown in conveying Colin Kaepernick's truth.

There literally isn't even a plot in any episode.

it felt very out of touch and nothing that i could really feel was going down a genuine path. all in all this was something i really could enjoy even if you paid me.

I can never really begin to understand what's it like to be African-american in the US, every micro and just blatantly attacks of racism thrown towards you every single day, the stress and fear about the everyday occurrences like being stop by a cop. This series accomplishes what many other works don't dare to, it shows you the reality of being overlooked by the color of your skin and the little things that others say, or do and don't realize are hurtful. I truly believe it is a most watch so that we can understand how to better improve ourselves and the world around us, thanks for showing us the world through the eyes of others.

I actually liked it but this "white people are evil" thing is just boring now. CK has a great life. Enjoy it and stop moaning.

Engaging series on the struggles of being multi-ethnic and finding your way

I'm french, so I'm not familiar with American suburb's life, neither am I with football or baseball, so I've discovered who the narrator really was once I was at, like, eps 3. and even then, he was just "the guy who went down on a knee during an event" So I've learn a lot. About NHL, about the pressure of being a teen with "a future", about being the only black in a white suburb, about parents willing to drive their son in every state, just for a match... It was really a journey. There's a lot of little details really remarkable: how a white mother struggle with her metis son's hair, how to deal with a generation's music conflict when stuck in a car for an entire season of matches, how every hotel's lobbies looks the same when you're used to it ... the narrative is powerful, Colin Kaepernick is reaaally a great storyteller, all the actors are truly believable and conveys a lot of emotions. It was good. It was witty. Music was great. Editing was flawless... I loved it.

This series is very good, poignant moments mixed in with great facts about American History. People leaving these bad reviews are obviously Americans who hate everything that doesn't conform to their version of America. I've seen Colin's version of America and it doesn't surprise me that this series is met with the same sort of societal derision when it comes to highlighting systematic racism. It's so interesting to see how so many people can hurl insults at this man's athletic ability based on his beliefs on human rights. Not one of them was sought after like he was for MLB, and not one of them has won an NFC championship.
