Community: Season 2 (2010 - 2011)

Critic Consensus: Community unfurls into a marvel of meta-madness in its sophomore season, artfully deconstructing sitcom tropes while repeatedly knocking its own emotional beats out of the park.

Critic Reviews for Community Season 2

All Critics (18) | Top Critics (6)

Community is the most innovative sitcom of all time.

Community is one of television's hidden gems: a sharp, cerebral comedy crammed full of meta-humour and movie references.

Community is having the opposite of a sophomore slump as it makes claim... to being TV's most adventurous and unpredictable sitcom.

After all the amazingness this season, I can't even begin to imagine how they'll top it next year.

There are comedies whose push for warm-and-fuzzy endings either ring false or just seem unnecessary, but they're an essential part of "Community," and often the most effective part.

The second season's beginning has had a confidence missing from the first and nothing has been rote so far -- no sophomore slump here.

Community's stop-motion Christmas episode kind of broke my heart... I walked away from the episode with an overwhelming love for one of the most underappreciated characters on TV.

Community, you scamp, we missed you. You're meta, messy, and often too cute for your own good. But you're funny.

Jan 11, 2019 | Full Review…

Community has become a strong enough and well-enough defined show that the best and funniest things its characters can do is simply talk to one another.

Community has consistently been the best thing about NBC's Thursday lineup this fall. Awesomely clever, it's the Inception of sitcoms.

Audience Reviews for Community: Season 2

The characters really were fleshed out in this season. Best episode is season 2 episode 14. AD&D! Great!

A fantastic sophomore season; brilliant writing elevate this sit-com to heights unvisited by other network shows.

first half of the season was hysterical. second have was really creative but not as funny (about 3 viewings)

This tv show was possibly one of the most underrated shows, sure season 4 was a bit of a cock up without Dan Harmon, and it messed with the canon bit. but still so good. Possibly one of my most quoted tv shows and certainly the most rewatched. Season 1-3. 5 Stars. Season 4. 3 Stars. Season 5-6. 4 Stars. #sixseasonsandamovie

Best Halloween episode ever!

Season 2 of community retains its comedic essence and expands in a great, subtle way that allows the increasingly ridiculous predicaments the study group finds itself in seem almost commonplace..

They finally finished the transition from a sitcom to something else entirely. The show's metanarrative still moves forward despite almost every episode taking a unique form. There is nothing else like it.

Even more riotously funny than the premiere season, Community's unique brand of cynical and surreal comedy yet again blends perfectly with just the right amount of sentiment.

Now that the show has found its footing in season one (which admittedly didn’t take very long), this season is full of fantastic content. There’s more meta-humour, some fantastic character stuff, and jokes crammed in to every episode. There are plot points, as is tradition with second seasons. Chang is now a student, and tries to join the study group. Shirley reconciles with her ex-husband, and soon finds herself pregnant. The Jeff/Annie dynamic heats up, and Abed has a nervous breakdown. There are many phenomenal episodes in this season. “Basic Rocket Science” is a hilarious Apollo 13 spoof, and “Aerodynamics of Gender” has a lot of hidden gems (have that pause button ready). “Cooperative Calligraphy” really shows the meat of the characters in a bottle episode. “Conspiracy Theories and Interior Design” has some truly laugh-out-loud moments (and blanket forts), and “Intro to Political Science” mixes fantastic gags with incredible character humour. “Paradigms of Human Memory” is a spoof on clip shows, while the two-part paintball finale give some terrific laughs and spoofs (as well as the long-awaited Star Wars motif). A terrific sophomore season.

Community comes out swinging in the best season of a great series.
