I love Hayes and Wallace's relationship and watching them admit their genuine love to each other is amazing.

Because while there is certainly great, emotional drama to be mined from a show that overturns wrongful convictions and perhaps makes a larger social commentary about the state of the justice system, Conviction sadly isn't it.

... I am also reminded, and not in a good way, of the short-lived ABC series Equal Justice...

It's more than little baffling that ABC canceled the much-stronger Agent Carter to put [Hayley] Atwell on a cliche-ridden mess like Conviction.

Bang bang -- you're bored.
October 28, 2016
Conviction has a Scandal-esque vibe with its fast-paced action and the structure of a charismatic lead supported by a crack team who have their own special skill sets. Whether the premise can sustain itself... remains to be seen.
October 4, 2016
Atwell's Hayes Morrison is equally the dramatic, entitled daughter of a former president and the genuinely exceptional lawyer -- with enough self-doubt and self-destruction to rival TV's male anti-heroes.

Not much... believable is Conviction.

Predictable procedural squanders a strong leading lady.

If you're a fan of procedurals with sex appeal, you can do much, much worse. Atwell's Hayes Morrison is immediately appealing.

In a just world, Conviction would not be as witless as it is ridiculous, nor would it saddle its usually appealing British star with a clipped and erratic American accent that strangles her line readings and her charm. But it is and it does.

Conviction has a flashy style and a sarcastic manner, but underneath, there's a conventional show with a sentimental streak.
October 4, 2016
The leads prove interesting, and with some improvement, this show can be more than just a vehicle for Hayley Atwell to remind us how great she is, even with an American accent.

You get the feeling that ABC offered her (Hayley Atwell) Conviction as a consolation prize, and not a great one, either.

Conviction is a little bit like letting your toddler dress herself for school. Many of the pieces of the ensemble are great, but when you put them together, all you can see is a messy jumble, and the bad things distract from the good.
October 3, 2016
Conviction is basically a below-average detective show that fails partly because it can't settle on what it wants to be.
October 3, 2016
While Conviction is a fine show, it's lawyer-scandal-cop formula is also a dime a dozen. Agent Carter was one of a kind. It's hard not to think about its absence when watching these first few mediocre episodes.

October 3, 2016
A paint-by-numbers procedural reaching for a bit of Scandal's glitz.
October 3, 2016
The plot is ridiculous, the writing is bad and Atwell seems embarrassed to be there.

Television's efforts to wring every possible permutation out of the crime-and-punishment genre results in another bland series with Conviction.
