"Couples Therapy" is a documentary series following couples as they seek the help of psychoanalyst Dr. Orna Guralnik with their troubled relationships; coming off their previous success with the award-winning documentary "Weiner", executive producers Josh Kriegman and Elyse Steinberg are collaborating on the unscripted series that will feature real couples from New York City and its surrounding areas; the show strives to present the participants and the therapy process with empathy and not sensationalism as viewers track the couples' progress with Dr. Guralnik through each episode.

It's raw, often uncomfortable, but also spellbinding and fascinating and complex and delicious. It is voyeuristic, for sure, but, at the same time it's tremendously insightful. That's my defense and I'm sticking to it.

"Couples Therapy" is much better when the couch in question is a neutral and therapeutic space, rather than the well-worn, upholstered lump where we've spent the past 10 months slowly losing our grip.

I don't know how they persuaded the couples to take part but it is extraordinary TV. I learnt so much about relationships and the patterns we fall into. At the start of each series I thought all the couples were doomed, in their various ways, so it was impressive to see them grow and achieve insight. How "the thing" is rarely the real thing. I loved the way we saw the counselling sessions and the therapist's interactions with her mentor and her peer group. I also loved the interludes where we saw the milieu. Was it New York?

Riveting and thought provoking. Touched me to my core. I saw so much of myself and my spouse in some of the couples. There was such consolation to see the things you go through behind closed doors being played out in front of you by other people. My heart goes out to the bravery of each couple for sharing their beautiful and unique stories.

This does not feel authentic. If it was a real documentary, there would be realness. For those of us who practice in this profession, you know what I am talking about. I wish I could obtain continuing ed credits for watching this. Same waste of time as the majority of those paid experiences.

I've never seen anything quite like it! I feel like I learned how to communicate within my own relationships better. Can't wait for season 2!
