CIA trainee Annie Walker is suddenly plucked from the inner sanctum of the agency and promoted to field operative, and while it seems she went from obscurity to the fire because of her exceptional linguistic skills, something or someone from her past may be the reason her bosses shifted her career path. Now that Annie finds herself on assignments with no rules or training to guide her, all she can rely on is her intuition ... and the guidance of CIA military intelligence agent Auggie Anderson, a one-time special operative until he was blinded during a mission. Auggie helps Annie navigate the intricate CIA bureaucracy, and he quickly becomes the one person she can trust.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Predictable and perhaps a bit dated, Covert Affairs is nonetheless a slick, entertaining espionage drama that benefits from Piper Perabo in the lead role.

Watching Covert Affairs in real time, the fight scenes seemed better - more swift, visually clever - than I'd thought during a first look. Go to Full Review

I'm not ready to start the Piper Perabo Appreciation Society just yet, but she's surprisingly good in the role of Annie Walker, a fresh-faced CIA agent who's trying to put her past behind her and get started out with the agency. Go to Full Review

Covert Affairs is the week's new cable drama that seems most sure of what it wants to be, even if what it wants to be is just Alias through a USA prism and devoid of that pesky Milo Rambaldi and his prophecies. Go to Full Review

Throw in unsettling themes of duplicity and deception, and you've got a compelling plot that isn't afraid to throw curve balls. Go to Full Review

Annie calls for some sort of inner steel, but Perabo looks less like an untested agent than an overwhelmed intern. Go to Full Review

"Covert Affairs" isn't a terrible show. It's just redundant. Go to Full Review

fiona p @RT96851642 Nov 29 Just finished watching all of covert affairs it’s a shame they’ve stopped filming it. It was really quite good and would’ve loved to find out how Annie got on with her new beginnings and it’s not fair to leave it on a cliffhanger like that for us watches who have sat and gave our time to watching it. See more 09/04/2020 Makes CIA look like a unprofessional org - Husband and wife working together, playing office politics, favorites ( the way both of them gang up against Jai Wilcox), using their official power to make operatives do extra for personal reasons ,or making decisions based on personal reasons , sharing crucial information with each other - not a place where anyone would like to work especially a place where country and human lives are at stake . And for a operative who faces multiple life attempts from day one of work not being given a gun is just so silly The show script undermines common human intelligence. See more waleed a @RT10200069 05/24/2019 i am rating this a few months after i tried it so it's more of an estimate. i think i watched about 4 episodes. it was pretty trashy for noob watchers. i could tell immediately (1 viewing) See more 04/05/2019 Few episodes of 1st season were good and had Piper Perabo's natural act. Post that, she is full of over-acting and stupid cosmetic smiles. Couldn't proceed to watch second season due to her unrealistic acting. See more 01/25/2018 This show is a more clean-cut version of Alias. If the torture in THAT show freaks you out, then give Covert Affairs a try! Piper Perabo is great, and so are her costars (particularly her many male coworkers ;) ), and this show's standard TV-formula means that it proceeds at the normal pace we're all comfortable with. Each episode ends with a nicely wrapped bow and a lesson learned, while a bigger and more menacing picture develops in the background. That pace might not be particularly high-octane or thrilling, but the sleek scenes and aesthetics, the nitty-gritty of the combat, and the general all-around coolness of her disguises and the locations she travels to make it worthwhile. Plus, Piper Perabo's character really excels at bringing the normal realities of CIA work to life; whether it's bringing in assets or deceiving a totally average person, she manages to be really good and convincing at creating everday, normal excuses and white lies that we'd use to skip a party--but instead using them to save the world. A solidly good show! See more 08/29/2016 Entertaining, if not believable. See more Read all reviews
