Heading up the forensics team is Gil Grissom (William Petersen), who is appealing mostly because, like James Gandolfini as Tony Soprano, he doesn't look like he belongs on TV. Petersen's got a good solid cast behind him too

[Marg Helgenberger's] role so far is the most complex, and is the highlight of the show.

There is good juice behind CSI despite its early predilection toward shock value. Whether gratuitous or not, it could well detract from the show's sharper, more notable attributes.

It is a terrible title for a series, but promises some Patricia Cornwall nitty-gritty as well as actors to whom intelligent ideas might plausibly occur.
