Season 7
Curb Your Enthusiasm

Critics Consensus

Though the seventh season hits largely familiar beats, Larry David continues to mine the mundane for humor, and Curb Your Enthusiasm is as funny as ever.

Tv Season Info

The misadventures of miserable "Seinfeld" co-creator Larry David continue as "Curb Your Enthusiasm" enters its seventh season, which opens to find Larry and Loretta in a relationship that isn't working out. Later, Loretta leaves Larry over suspicious he is being unfaithful. When the rest of the Black's follow suit – with the exception of Leon – Larry attempts to win Cheryl back by offering her a part in the Seinfeld reunion show he's developing for NBC. Notable guest stars in this season of "Curb Your Enthusiasm" include Christian Slater and Catherine O'Hara, with the original cast of Seinfeld and as some notable supporting players (Wayne Knight, Estelle Harris, Steve Hytner) from that series turning up in the penultimate episode of the season as well.

It's a clever, funny start to these proceedings, although just a bit forced at times.

Indeed, the real and fictional "Seinfeld'' the meta event of the year, unfolding effortlessly and brilliantly across the [later] episodes of "Curb."

The "Seinfeld" plot doesn't kick off until the season's third episode. The first two, meanwhile, are a reminder of what a brilliant show, and a deep cast of characters, Larry has built.

I'm as surprised as the next jaded television viewer to report that the first episodes of the seventh season of "Curb Your Enthusiasm" have either won me over or just worn me down.

Larry David is a comic genius.

Season seven manages to embrace that new direction while simultaneously engaging in the show's most blatant grab at nostalgia to date, by introducing a season-long storyline of Larry finally putting together a Seinfeld reunion show.

This new season-long arc isn't only a downright clever idea, but it keeps Curb functioning at its peak.

It's gotten to the point where it doesn't seem to care whether or not it's mirroring the frustrations and social faux-pas of real life, yet you can count on there being something here to offend just about everybody.

[Larry David's] use of the Seinfeld cast, particularly in the final two episodes of this season, has improved both shows.

Jun 12, 2018 | Full Review…

Actually, by this point, they're all icons - even Larry. Curb Your Enthusiasm is the best comedy of the year, and [Season 7's] finale didn't let me down. It lifted me up.

Jun 12, 2018 | Full Review…

[The finale provided] a much funnier, more satisfying ending to the original ["Seinfeld"] show than David had 11 years earlier.

David's intricate, well-oiled, retribution-by-comedy machine is a thing of beauty.

Audience Reviews for Curb Your Enthusiasm: Season 7

  • Jun 05, 2019
Larry gets a bit meaner in this season, and it gets harder to like him, but the return of the Seinfeld cast for the reunion show is like inviting old friends you haven't seen for years into your home, and becomes a satisfying conclusion to Seinfeld.
