"Dark," the German time-travel thriller, is often compared to the Duffer Brothers' nostalgia trip. But in its second season, its ambitions are closer to "The Wire."

Perhaps the best way to enjoy "Dark" is just to let it pass over you, as weightily satisfying as the thunk that the doors of the show's many German station wagons make when they're shut.

"Dark" is a rewarding investment in time spent in untangling the family trees and timelines. It's also an intriguing experiment in how looped events and themes of determinism can play into growth and evolution.

The second season of Dark shows that it is one of the most original and ambitious Netflix shows to date, without even being an American production. [Full Review in Spanish]

If you can take the morose vibe, the series is beautifully filmed in grey/green hues, and maintains its mood of impending doom rather brilliantly.

Dark's second season more than delivers on the series' characteristic and circuitous time-travel action.

This is an interesting pairing, because they're both pretty new to time travel and don't have a ton of experience with which to guide one another.

Dark is steadily turning into a cult hit, and a third season is on its way (following a gang-busters cliffhanger at the end of its second).

Even though the time-twisting narrative consumes the characters and their time, counting down the days till the apocalypse, season two of Dark is even more eerie, shadowy, trepidatious and character-driven than last season.

I'm just glad Dark exists. There should be more TV shows this unflinchingly devoted to exploring their own fantasies, as opposed to reheating older ones.

Dark, might just be the smartest show out there today. I say "might" because, frankly, this thing clocks in way above my IQ level.

The scripts, cinematography, and acting are all razor sharp. But the can't-tell-the-players-without-a-scorecard structure runs the risk of sucking up all the oxygen in the room. Can Dark still make it work? I want to believe.

If you're looking for meatier, more interesting fare than, say, a certain '80s teen pastiche, Dark is worth a binge.

But even if it occasionally moves at a glacial pace, the writing and plot never feel too unmoored.

At eight episodes in length, Dark is a tightly-woven tapestry of compelling stories and memorable performances from the entire ensemble.

The second season of Dark takes the great foundation built by its first and escalates the stakes, the emotion, and the goodwill built up. It's a hugely successful effort, proving itself as one of Netflix's absolute best in their line-ups.

Dark, with its absolute sincerity and lush production, is a luxurious myth.

Aided by Boris Gromatzki's confident editing and Ben Frost's foreboding score, director Odar never loses his grip on this multi-pronged material.

Dark presents a fascinating alternative: a sci-fi series that not only revels in its many paradoxes, but makes good on them.
