A genetically enhanced superhuman prototype, Max, who, as a child, escaped from a covert government military facility along with 11 others who were all being raised and trained to be super-soldiers. Now an adult, Max joins forces with idealistic cyber journalist Logan to battle corruption in post-apocalypse America as he constantly tries to elude capture by government agents. While all that is going on, Max also searches for her genetically enhanced brothers and sisters, all of whom were scattered in the aftermath of their escape.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Jessica Alba does a solid job as a post-apocalyptic heroine in Dark Angel, a sleek - if somewhat predictable -- cyberpunk show.

But the most disappointing thing about Dark Angel is that, in comparison to the richly subtextual Aliens and The Terminator, it's woefully lacking in imagination and soul. Go to Full Review

It is easy to define Dark Angel by naming the films and series it resembles: part Blade Runner, part Xena, Warrior Princess with a huge dose of The X-Files. But like some genetic television experiment it emerges with a dynamic identity of its own. Go to Full Review

James Cameron has created not only a drama that speaks to a younger generation, but also a character who suggests a new concept of ethnicity for television, transcending old parameters of black and white. Go to Full Review

Jacob B Feb 9 Ah yes, that one time James Cameron made a TV show. Might not be talked about a lot but I still think it left a bigger cultural impact than Avatar. Dark Angel's a good show. It has terrific acting from Jessica Alba, a compelling narrative, fun supporting characters, good comedic timing and decent action. Good chemistry with Michael Weatherly as well. I'd rather not take sides in any debates about the age gap between them. Ignoring the fact that they actually were dating IRL at the time, I just shrugged it off on the grounds that it's never mentioned how old Logan is beyond "old enough to have already been married before". Can lean a bit into "strictly formula" sometimes when it comes to Max getting pissed about Logan being married to the job and then something happens that vindicates the latter. Overall, a good cyberpunk/superhero show that's one of Cameron's underrated works. Shame about 9/11 ruining the show but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Also hearing in interviews that star Jessica Alba bullied co-star Jensen Ackles on set all the time; exerting that kind of abusive prototypical Hollywood type toxic environment; doesn't make me like the show more... See more 03/04/2021 I loved the series from the first moment I saw the pilot! It has fast paced action and a great plot, the actors are a good fit for their characters, Jessica Alba is great as sassy mutant Max, bike courier by day and thief by night. The post apocalyptic scenario is now maybe even more contemporary than ever, society is changing and people are questioning science ethics. The strong female lead is what makes it one of my favorite series of all times, I really would love to see a reboot! See more 11/30/2018 Creative and innovative. I'd love to see a reboot.
