What to Know

Critics Consensus

DAVE can be just as off-putting as Lil Dicky's rap persona with its abundance of genitalia jokes and self-aggrandizement, but beneath the raunchy veneer is a surprisingly self-aware show with a sweet core.

Dave isn't good because it's funny (though that helps). Dave is good because it knows you think you know what it is. Go to Full Review

Throughout it all, Dave is an underdog you just have to root for and it’s the best cringe comedy this side of Tom and cousin Greg in Succession. Go to Full Review

Hip hop has been a monumental cultural force for nearly 50 years, so it's offputting to see this show indulge in a lot of the same easy jokes about rappers that have been made for decades. Go to Full Review

Dave is very funny. That's not the most astute critical assessment, I know. But it's what you probably most want to know. It's also deeper than it has any business being. Go to Full Review

Mason M Jun 1 I was decently aware of Lil Dicky's music, and I've found it funny, so I decided to give this a watch. And I'm glad that I did. Dave was a hilarious and fun watch that still was surprisingly interesting and innovative. I was very surprised how fresh this show felt in most aspects of it. It's a very unique take on the rap genre from Dave Burd's perspective, which was very interesting. And its filmmaking is surprisingly good too. I loved how many episodes focused on individual side characters, and the season finale is a downright impressive piece of television. And the show has a perfect balance of hilarious vulgar buffoonery and genuine sincerity. Dave Burd was amazing in this show. His writing and ideas were hilarious the whole way through, and his performance is top-notch. But I will say that even though I'm heavily endorsing Dave, I do not think Burd is a good musician, but he's an amazing comedian. This first season of Dave was a hilarious, sincere, and innovative piece of television. See more Josh B 08/18/2024 FIVE STARS for Andrew Santino! See more Carl J 07/17/2023 A Hilarious Rollercoaster Ride of Laughter and Dreams! Oh boy, let me tell you about this hilarious gem of a show called "Dave"! I give it a solid 9 out of 10 in my funny-o-meter. This show is like a rollercoaster ride of laughter, with twists and turns that will leave you gasping for air. So, picture this: we have a neurotic mid-20s suburbanite who is absolutely convinced that he is destined to become one of the greatest rappers of all time. I mean, come on, who doesn't dream of becoming a rap superstar while living in the suburbs, am I right? But hey, he's got big dreams and he's not afraid to chase them! Our protagonist, aptly named Dave, is on a mission to prove to everyone that he's got what it takes to be a rap legend. And by everyone, I mean his closest friends. Because let's face it, if you can't convince your buddies, how are you going to convince the world? It's like a modern-day David and Goliath story, but instead of a sling, Dave's got his rhymes and witty comebacks. Now, Dave's friends are simultaneously exasperated and inspired by his relentless pursuit of rap stardom. They're like his own personal cheerleaders, cheering him on while secretly rolling their eyes behind his back. But hey, that's what true friendship is all about, right? Supporting your friend's crazy dreams, even if they seem utterly ridiculous. And let me tell you, Dave is determined. He's ready to leave no stone unturned on his quest for superstardom. He's willing to put in the hours, the sweat, and the tears to make it happen. And who knows, maybe, just maybe, he might actually succeed. I mean, stranger things have happened, right? What makes "Dave" even more special is that it's based on the real-life experiences of rapper and comedian Dave Burd, also known as Lil Dicky. So you know this show is coming from a place of authenticity. It's like a glimpse into the mind of a man who dared to dream big and chase his passion, no matter how unconventional it may seem. So, if you're looking for a show that will have you laughing out loud, cringing in second-hand embarrassment, and rooting for the underdog, then "Dave" is the show for you. It's a hilarious and heartwarming comedy that reminds us all to never give up on our dreams, no matter how outlandish they may be. In conclusion, "Dave" is a must-watch comedy series that will have you laughing, crying, and questioning your own life choices. It's a show that proves that with determination, a little bit of talent, and a whole lot of humor, anyone can chase their dreams and maybe, just maybe, achieve greatness. So grab your popcorn, buckle up, and get ready for the wild ride that is "Dave"! See more Cumali T 05/26/2023 Not my cup of tea. Different worlds I guess. See more Read all reviews
