Dead Like Me: Season 1 (2003)

SEASON:

TOMATOMETER

Critic Consensus: Dead Like Me is a required (after)taste, but the series' acidic wit and wry observations about the simple pleasures of life and death overcome the deficit in likable characters.

Some signs of life.

Sep 27, 2018 | Full Review…

People expecting a deep look at the afterlife with plenty of philosophy won't find that here, but if you can get lost in a clever, easygoing comedy that's a little bit dark but never too depressing, you shouldn't be disappointed.

Sep 27, 2018 | Rating: 8/10 | Full Review…

The writers are likely going for a comedic and quirky way to do things, and the constant commentary is probably meant to endear us to George, but I found the show to be trying too hard in all of those categories.

Sep 27, 2018 | Rating: 5/10 | Full Review…

Manages to hit every imaginable wrong note along the way.

Sep 27, 2018 | Full Review…

Instead of a wormy cadaver, Dead Like Me is robust and original, crossing grimness with comedy.

Sep 27, 2018 | Full Review…

Mixed in all of this snarky soul-snatching are real-life consequences. Dead Like Me balances melancholy with the predominant humor in a believable, smart fashion.

Sep 27, 2018 | Full Review…

You have to like the ghost leading you into the beyond, and Muth's character makes that almost impossible.

Sep 27, 2018 | Full Review…

What is a soul, and where does it go once the body dies? Does fate exist, and if so, is it inalterable? Dead Like Me deals with these and other coffeehouse musings with a wry touch.

Sep 27, 2018 | Full Review…

It's frisky, freaky and funny in the writing; boasts a fiercely credible performance from Mandy Patinkin; and introduces the splendid Ellen Muth in her first starring role.

There's an old saying that goes "the dead can't hurt you," but in the case of the new Showtime series Dead Like Me they certainly have the power to bore you to death.
