What to Know

Critics Consensus

An irreverent twist on the crime procedural, Deadloch's addictive mixture of mystery and mordant humor makes most of its corpse-strewn competition look comparably stiff.

It might sound a little cliche to say you’ll be guessing all the way to the end, but you really will, with unpredictable pace-propelling twists rolled out from go to whoa. Go to Full Review

It’s a great flip of the same old “women are being murdered” pattern we see too often in real life, and thus very often in crime shows. Plus, it has emotional beats but also so much comedy. Go to Full Review

If you were to take the British crime drama Broadchurch (and I do not mean its entirely unnecessary American remake Gracepoint) and mash it together with a feminist, less gun-packed Hot Fuzz, you’d end up with Deadloch. Go to Full Review

It’s described simply as a crime comedy hybrid and a “Feminist Noir Comedy”. Both descriptions work surprisingly well. For me, the comedy is hit-or-miss. Some scenes work perfectly, while others go very much over the top. Go to Full Review

Deadloch is one of the funniest, smartest, most unexpected delights I have watched in a long time. Go to Full Review

If it can stick the landing in the second half of the series, it'll be one of the best crime shows of the year; as it is, it's certainly the funniest. Go to Full Review

Gontran G @Gontran83 6d Simply brilliant, why not 6 stars? See more Albertine M @albertnie Jan 3 This was the craziest, funniest ensemble comedy show since Schitt's Creek. The characters play off each other so well. And the horny lesbian angle is hilarious. Entertaining as hell. Wish the series could have continued, it had the strong characters and plotting to last many more seasons. But perhaps the Tasmanian -- Small Town -- Potty Mouth Horny Hippie Lesbian Vibe was a niche thing? :-) See more Chris T Dec 24 Trying far too hard to be funny, and FULL of 'woke' rubbish. CANNOT recommend See more Reema G @ReemaG Dec 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Deadloch – A Sharp, Hilarious, Haunting Mystery Deadloch completely surprised me. What starts off looking like a light, slapstick comedy quickly turns into a brilliant parody of slow, broody crime dramas — and then evolves into a genuinely gripping mystery with constant twists. The final reveal is fantastic, and the writing balances humour and tension beautifully. The character dynamics are outstanding; watching these two completely opposite personalities clash, grow, and unexpectedly connect is one of the show’s biggest strengths. Even the supporting characters add depth and chaos in the best way. And the music deserves special mention — the opening theme and the haunting background score during the tense moments elevate every scene and make the mystery feel even more atmospheric. Smart, funny, sharp, and surprisingly emotional, Deadloch is one of the most entertaining mystery shows I’ve watched. Highly recommended! See more Ian M Nov 1 Didn’t really understand the appeal of this series. Slap stick comedy and unlikely characters. So you can’t take it seriously and not funny enough to be a comedy. See more Melissa B. @melbusby Aug 25 This was a really great unexpected find! I really hope they have a season 2! See more Read all reviews
