Critic Reviews for Deadly Class Season 1

All Critics (36) | Top Critics (10)

Deadly Class isn't about to make perfect sense, or for the most part, even imperfect sense. Its intentions, however, take on a certain nobility in due time.

For now, Deadly Class is failing to live up to its potential. It's messy and hollow. It's all a front.

High school may have felt like a never-ending hellscape to many, but "Deadly Class" gives little motivation to watch by making onlookers experience the unpleasantness all over again.

If the first season is any indication, Deadly Class should be here to stay for a long time. Wild, crazy, & violent - it feels like it was ripped from the comic pages.

There is potential, but with too much emphasis on melodrama tropes, and villainous characters that lack charm, the pilot episode leaves much to be desired.

A brutal and fairly well-made finish to a strong and mostly impressive first season.

Deadly Class is one that I will continue to watch.

I like the idea that these would-be killers - like pretty much all high-schoolers trying on different identities - are also poseurs.

Mar 20, 2019 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

Deadly Class feels smart, stylish and cool despite its scary violence... it's a show that will ring the new year in with a rebel yell.

Feb 12, 2019 | Full Review…

Deadly Class asks what it takes to change the status quo, but its answer so far is not particularly revolutionary.

Really enjoyed this one, nothing else like it, with the dark environment of 80s S.F. and such a diverse cast. Really disappointed SyFy didn't give this one a chance with a second season.

The first star is 5 stars for the first episode.. the half star is half a star for everything afterwards. When i watched the pilot i thought, "HELL YES! IM IN LOVE! THIS IS SOMETHING IVE BEEN WAITING FOR!" ... AND THEN ... it just went down down down in flames. I FEEL like when Henry Roland's character as the teacher handing in his resignation, was a metaphor for him actually leaving the show once he realized it was bombing. My hunch only.. but it just seems so synonymous. I mean.. this show.. to hell with the looks and the humor or all the eye candy... this show had promise out the yin-yang to be a basis for exploring our human psyche and the will to stand up against our oppressive existence. The dialog and the concepts and the music of that punk-mentality, that generation of voices of being fed up with our totalitarian overlords and breaking the mold of our assumed, moral convictions.. this was all so BAD-ASS and had me so deep along with it, ready to see how this kid was going to take on the world. But by the end of the second episode, I could see the screws coming loose.. and then so fast, it fell apart and i began griefing. I wanted this show to take off.. i wanted this thing to last. What happened? By episode 3, it was all unhinged and i was lost on so many fronts. Ive never seen anything show start so well and then fall to its death so quickly. I hate this! Why do great things get screwed this way? Seriously, what happened? The writing in the pilot was awesome, and the next episodes felt like someone snuck in and tore the pages out and stuffed in half-assed, melodramatic malarkey. Just... erase everything after the pilot, get a new network and start over. Stick with your guns this time.. please? "Making the world a better place.. just a bunch of hippy BS" I loved it... :(

This show is great. Executed extremely well. The actors have done a fantastic job with extreme parts. Love the the music and the teen age coming of age rants...raging against the machine as we do when we are young and everything is new.

Such a promising pilot, and such a good premise ruined by boring villains driven by very uninspired plots.

I think if you are a 14 year old who just read Ayn Rand and think she's deep, this is the perfect show for you. So much pretentious voiceover & cynicism without a breath of hope.
