Critics Consensus

Delhi Crime's sophomore season lacks some of the resonance that distinguished its predecessor, but handsome production value and cultural insight makes this procedural a solid continuation.

Sharang L @Scribe187 Nov 21 Pedestrian writing lets this season down. The bristling rage from the first season is absent, replaced by elements of macabre that don't ring true. The attempts at social commentary seem insincere. The actors though do a great job, particularly Shome, who one has not seen in this avatar. See more vineet p @RT31890730 01/29/2025 Hideous show. They call it "inspired by real life events" but it's not because all it is based on assumption. See more michael d @RT20685921 10/04/2022 At last, something on Netflix that feels real! See more sunil d @RT46660562 09/16/2022 Like the 1st season, the 2nd season was also very good except for a few points mentioned below.Everyone's acting was very good with the standouts being Shefali Shah(as always) and the female criminal Karishma who were exceptional. The direction, editing and length of the web series were all top notch However there were some points/issues which I definitely could not accept such as   why didn't Delhi Police put handcuffs on the arrested persons in SE1/2? Is it that in reality this doesn't happen up to today in India or is it in this series the maker chose not to handcuff the criminals? This shows total lack of professionalism from Delhi police. During interrogation the criminal was not handcuffed. What if he overpowers the cop questioning him, injures /murders him&escapes? One small little tiny lady overpowering 2 strong men &killing them with a small hammer is not realistic at all.!Unless this is a true story which the maker wanted to emulate this was/ is very difficult to accept👎🏿 Besides this, the webseries was quite good. 8/10 See more neeraj f @nsfarmers 08/28/2022 The series is pretty good and hit hard the reality of Delhi . Worth watching See more Sunderlal R @RT17932701 08/26/2022 Delhi Crime, in its season 2, had a really tough act to follow. Season 1 gave a new flavor and viewing experience, with more grounded and real-life characters and their relatable personal stories, to the investigative thriller genre from Indian content landscape. This had resulted in high expectations for the new season, and the creators have mostly succeeded! If the 5 episodes long season is divided into the three act structure - establishing the premise, a very relevant social commentary, and the investigation which leads to the real culprits - the transition between these three acts were largely seamless. Establishing the premise was very well executed as the core story this time is around the killings by a group using the MO of the infamous "Chaddi-baniyan gang". This act is also utilized to establish a personal tension in the life of Neeti Singh played by Rasika Dugal which, while is a social commentary in itself, had pacing issues as the season progresses. The writing really works for this part but many a times, through the lens of the larger narrative arc, it felt as if writers were frequently forgetting about it. Or was it an intentional one to show how the life of Police personnel really are, that even an issue of high personal gravitas comes only secondary?! In the second act, it is a cliché of the format to have the investigation running in the wrong direction for some time, which is generally used as a tool to establish personal conflicts for the main characters. Though here, this act mostly focuses on DNTs (De-notified Tribes) and their treatment at the hands of police and society. This part of the series, though with flaws and predictable narrative style, provides an important social commentary about a section of people who don't find a sympathetic treatment or even a proper voice in the pop culture. By mid of episode 3, the series shifts to the final act, which is of the investigation on the right track. And here is where the season has its biggest issue. The screenplay doesn't provide enough tension and, it doesn't feel like a race against the time. The sense of urgency, one feels, to catch the real killers is also missing. But the one factor which holds together the entire season, especially when the writing is shaky, is Shefali Shah. She doesn't miss a beat and her performance feels organic and a continuation from season 1. Couple of weeks back, she amazed me with the astonishing performance in Darlings and now she delivers another stellar performance! There are also some really good writing which creates a sense of the characters, especially the investigation team, to be more real and with flaws. While Shefali and Rasika delivers really noteworthy performances, especially the detailing, the rest of the cast also delivers on what is given to them. What lacked was an engaging writing in the third act. Still, Delhi Crime season 2 is a worthy watch with more realistic portrayal of police than what you generally see in Indian content. Even with its flaws, it largely worked for me for two reasons - Shefali Shah and shorter runtime with just 5 episodes. Am I looking forward to season 3? Definitely, with the mentioned career progression for Vartika, and hope the writing becomes more gripping and tight at the investigation side, while retaining the powerful social commentary. Tail-end: Watch out for an amazing performance by a granny!! See more Read all reviews
