Desperate Housewives: Season 8 (2011 - 2012)

Critic Consensus: In its eighth and final season, Desperate Housewives concludes with more outrageous predicaments and snappy comedy, ultimately underscored by a message of lasting friendship.

Critic Reviews for Desperate Housewives Season 8

All Critics (19) | Top Critics (8)

As much as Desperate Housewives will rightfully be remembered as a frothy suburban comedy, it was its seedy...underbelly that made it a nervier, more interesting series than it might have been coming from a less puckish mind than Marc Cherry's.

Despite its issues, Desperate Housewives is one of those guilty pleasures that can't be replicated - or rebooted. Its finale was as tidy as Bree Van de Camp's home, giving each family a picture-perfect ending.

Desperate Housewives was part cheeky satire, part mystery, part racy version of Stepford Wives - and something entirely new.

This installment of Desperate Housewives didn't exactly feel like a season premiere--it wasn't much of an event, as it were. But that's not to say that the season as a whole doesn't look like it will be fun.

For all its wackiness, Wisteria Lane has always been a reassuring place to visit for an hour - to reaffirm that even if things seem beautiful on the surface, everyone is fighting a battle.

It was hard not to admire the logistics - and even the sentiment - that brought together everyone who had died on the show [in the final episode], although even I had to strain to remember who some of them were.

Beyond the melodrama, the characters are often relatable, entertaining and speak to that spark of crazy that lives in all of us.

[Season 8 has] gotten sentimental and lost the wonderful balance of comedy and drama we loved it for.

Sep 24, 2018 | Full Review…

Beneath all of its trashy fun, "Desperate Housewives" often says something meaningful about the aspirations of American women.

All the while, Mrs. McCluskey' actions gave weight to the drama during both hours [of the series finale].
