Behind the facade of a postcard-perfect subdivision live four women whose lives are anything but idyllic. Klutzy Susan is divorced and the mother of teenage Julie. Lynette is married to Tom and the frazzled mother of four rambunctious children. Bree is the neighborhood's Martha Stewart, whose perfection masks major dysfunction. Ex-model Gabrielle, married to handsome and successful Carlos, wants to have her cake and eat it too. Looking down on it all is Mary Alice, who took her own life but comments on the lives of her former neighbors.

Critics Consensus

In its eighth and final season, Desperate Housewives concludes with more outrageous predicaments and snappy comedy, ultimately underscored by a message of lasting friendship.

ABC's Desperate Housewives concluded its rocky, racy and macabre eight-season run with a tidy, affectionate send-off. Go to Full Review

In the end, Housewives is unlikely to be remembered as one of TV's great classics. But when you look back on all the pleasure those housewives gave us... you can't help thinking that Sundays may be just a little less fun without them. Go to Full Review

For all its wackiness, Wisteria Lane has always been a reassuring place to visit for an hour - to reaffirm that even if things seem beautiful on the surface, everyone is fighting a battle. Go to Full Review

As much as Desperate Housewives will rightfully be remembered as a frothy suburban comedy, it was its seedy...underbelly that made it a nervier, more interesting series than it might have been coming from a less puckish mind than Marc Cherry's. Go to Full Review

Test T @TestTest1 Apr 17 I just finished watching this on DVD, after perviously watching seasons 5 through 7. I found some of the episodes in the earlier seasons disappointing, so I started this final season hoping for things to improve. The good news is that season 8 regains the lost momentum and is full of interesting episodes that drive the story to it's conclusion. I think the fact that this season had a conclusion helped focus the writers minds, so there is very little filler in season 8. For once, they appear to have had clear objectives, and do a really good job at delivering a suicidal plan for the franchise. The drama and comedy are noticably better in season 8 in my opinion. My only criticism is that the ending feels a little too hurried and far too perfect to be credible. The importance of enduring friendships appears to be the core message, although the story goes out of it's way to demonstrate that everything is temporary, and nothing really matters when people move on. This aside, I though season 8 was one of the best I've seen, and I am happy to recommend it. See more Dmitriy A @DmitriyB 10/29/2024 perfect season, recommended!!!
