Critic Reviews for Desus & Mero Season 1

Despite the kinks, Desus & Mero is still a joy and even a potential game-changer.
Raucous newcomer that can be highly entertaining, at other moments off-putting -- caveat emptor -- but the future does look promising.
That Ocasio-Cortez would be the new iteration's first guest couldn't be more appropriate: she's also won a following for breaking into a white-dominated institution with frankness, reason, and a refreshing contempt for the 1%.
The show, like the snack, is salty and slightly sweet, and its crispness is a sign of its authenticity.
The initial outing revealed a few weaknesses in the new format, but it retained the humor, point of view, and boisterous energy that makes Desus and Mero an essential late-night addition.
They don't obsess about politics and are happy to take swipes at whatever low-hanging fruit they can find.
The brand is strong. It's early to make pronouncements, but the premiere of Showtime's Desus & Mero still feels like a breath of fresh air, even in the ever-more-crowded landscape of late-night comedy.
I've always got room for another weekly half-hour, though, and after this promising debut, I'm ready to add Showtime's Desus & Mero to my rotation.
But perhaps what Desus and Mero did best was keep their new show feeling familiar, yet fun and exciting, for longtime Bodega Hive members, while also welcoming new viewers to their particular (and rather strong) brand of comedy.
New voices in late night TV are fresh, smart, topical.
The Showtime version, god bless, is just professional enough, but no more. Which is why I found myself laughing like an idiot...

Nov 02, 2019How on earth do you screw up an interview with Bill Burr? He is comedy gold, but their interview with him was just painfully awkward. These guys just aren't funny. But props to them for not getting overly political.
