Chris A @ChrisAd 10/15/2021 They really stepped up their game here! It was witty, fun and really developed the characters! Bring on season 3! See more 08/22/2021 Diary of a Future President is back with its second season on Disney+. This season follows three storylines featuring the Cañero-Reed family. The first plot is that Elena is running for school rep but has many challenges along the way. The second plot follows Bobby as he learns how to express his sexuality and feel more comfortable with it. The third and final plot follows Gabi and Sam as they learn more about each other as their relationship grows. The plot that was the strongest out of the three was Bobby's arc. Bobby's character arc felt cohesive throughout the whole season without any large bumps in the road. Bobby as a whole felt upgraded as he made new friends and still kept his older ones. Yes, there were a couple of episodes that felt a little cliche, but it worked for Bobby's storyline. I do wish that we got a little bit more time between him and Liam in the second half of the season. It was such an integral part of Bobby's character in the first season, and I think it got a tiny bit lost near the end of the season. Although, Bobby getting together with CJ was nice to see. The second best plot out of the three is Elena's arc and her desire to earn the role of student president. Elena was a strong character throughout the season, yet I still think she was slightly flawed. Elena got herself into a new problem every episode which got a little repetitive after a few episodes since some of them had similar tones. Yes, it all leads to Elena realizing that she needs to focus on others and not just herself if she wants to be student president. However, I don't think the payoff was executed well and felt a bit rushed. Although what I did appreciate was that there was very little drama surrounding Elena and her friends. The first season had too much of that and took away from the show at certain moments. If this show gets a season three, I believe it should focus more on making Elena's actions throughout each episode feel more cohesive and spread out to allow a bigger payoff at the end of the season. Lastly, I found Sam and Gabi's plot to be the weakest of the three. However, I did really like a lot of the storylines they had in the first few episodes. Although, I wish that the writers kept it going throughout the whole season as it focused more on Gabi near the end. There was no problem with it focusing more on Gabi, but it did feel like Sam wasn't doing anything in the last 2-3 episodes. I believe that if Sam connected to the kids a bit more in other episodes, it would have helped his character out a lot. Even with the minor complaints I have about the writing this season, the show does continue to be an enjoyable watch. It is a definite step-up from the first season, which was very kid-centric. This season felt more mature with many significant storylines that any parent, teen, or adult could relate to. Those aspects of the show are brought together with an outstanding cast. Tess Romero and Selenis Leyva were both so superb this season. If this show gets picked up for a season 3, I would love to see more of the mature and relatable writing combined with even more excellent character development that made this season of Diary of a Future President such a fun watch.
