Critics Consensus

Although Betty Broderick's sensational Story is at times scattershot, Amanda Peet's incredible embodiment of a woman scorned is a sight to behold.

Tv Season Info

The second installment of this anthology series, is based on another epic true tale of love gone wrong ? a story that spans the 1960s to the '80s, through the breakdown of a marriage that Oprah deemed one of "America's messiest divorces" even before it ended in double homicide. Betty Broderick is the perfect blonde wife and mother. Married to Dan, Betty charms everyone she meets and after years of sacrifice while supporting Dan through both medical and law school, Betty is finally enjoying the fruits of their labors. Until Dan hires Linda, a bright, young woman without baggage with whom he can happily forget the struggles of his past. Betty's attempts to fight back and enraged refusals to accept reality only serve to isolate and destabilize her until she loses her very identity. And Dan's cold confidence blinds him to the bear he has created and won't stop poking...until it's too late.

Why why why is this under Dirty John???? This was a master con artist who had many victims. Betty should have been on SNAPPED because that is what happened. There are so many better comparable characters to Dirty John that should have been used rather than Betty. So lame!!!

I have to be honest I'm not very far into season 2, but I'm really unimpressed with how its started. Within the first 10 minutes, Betty crashes her car into her husbands house. So we're presented with a rich crazy lady with nothing more to her character than the fact that she's rich and crazy. Yes, she killed her ex husband, but I'm certain there was more to Betty than that.

I do love Amanda Peet and really decided to watch it bc of her. She really should get an award for this performance. I haven't seen anything like it in a long time. Christian Slater plays the perfect @ss$ole. There is just enough courtroom drama.

This season is so much better than season 1. Amanda Peet does a really great job. I have to wonder, though, how in 2020, does an 8 episode series get made that is virtually all white? In nearly 8 hours of programming there are two people of color with speaking parts. One says about 10 words, the other even fewer. How does that happen? It doesn't even have the token Black judge or cop that Hollywood loves so much. Is this intentional? Or are the makers of this show just oblivious to the fact that there are people in the US who are not white? It is really unconscionable; all involved should be ashamed (Peet, Connie Britten (executive producer), Christian Slater, Alexandra Cunningham (creator), Lynn Lowy (casting), et.al. Do better, folks.

I thought this was fabulous! I could not stop watching!

Good job! Magnificent performances of Amanda Peet as Betty!
  • Jun 13, 2021
Started out well but ultimately a disappointment. Nothing ever really happens. If you love Amanda Peet you'll like this, but if you're looking for masterful storytelling, this isn't it. It feels claustrophobic — everything happens indoors in closed spaces. This was a miscalculation.

Superb acting, very tragic story! The title is a bit deceiving tho, I watched Dirty John and it's very different, I'm sure they could of found the story of a woman that married for money and that was spineless like John, not that what Betty did was ok but you can't compare! Totally recommend watching.
