Critic Reviews for Dirty Money Season 1

All Critics (13) | Top Critics (6)

Dirty Money proves its thesis not just by exposing corporations, but also by rendering thoughtful, intimate portraits of individuals whose desire to accumulate wealth has transformed into a terminal kind of myopia.

Dirty Money is eminently, compulsively watchable, somehow counterbalancing the heaviness of the subject matter with an undercurrent of urgency and a keen sense of how to keep things entertaining.

You could stare into [Scott Tucker's] wide, guileless eyes for an aeon without detecting remorse.

The breath of storytelling here is impressive, and with Gibney shepherding the series, it looks to be a hallmark of Netflix moving forward.

Armed with a dangerous, even rock star appeal, Dirty Money entertains as well as it informs across its six episodes. But you may need a shower afterward.

Directorial styles and esthetics are different from episode to episode, and you might prefer some to others-but every story is worth knowing more about.

This personal take, the rage, adds power and poignancy. Who says a documentary needs to be entirely objective?

Dirty Money is the most fun you can have while being pissed off.

The installments range from an infuriating look at payday lending to an offbeat story about Canadian maple syrup cartels. The common thread is the abuse of trust.

Listening to people talk about how the crooks in the three piece suits rip you off both in complicated and layman's terms, is fascinating. Highly recommend it.

Great documentary with interesting storytelling thread backed by engaging stakeholders, and well researched facts. Exposing stories that may be otherwise less known to people - intriguing and food for thought for sure.

I'm glued to the TV! Amazing series, very informative

What a bunch of garbage. Don't waste your time.
  • Jul 26, 2018
This docu-series is ambitious and brutal without overly complicating information and at times goes right for the jugular. A true examination of corporate greed, scandal, and the overlooked (and blatant) crimes contributing to the current economic challenges in the world today. Good, bad or indifferent, this series has something that can speak to everyone.

Find this serial using boxxy software . Already The fourth series is disappointing. 50 minutes about anything.

they can replace almost all of the programing on tv with shows like this and i will binge watch all damned day!
  • Apr 03, 2018
EVERY EPISODE HAS A NEW DIRECTOR AND is crafted differently which makes 'Dirty money' a great and infuriating documentary series about companies and people and how they lie, cheat, and steal to make a profit.
  • Mar 27, 2018
One of the best shows/Documentaries I have watched hands down! wonderfully made, never a dull moment and shit tons of jaw dropping revelations.

Well I am actually glad I stumbled upon this. This is certainly corruption and its wrong. But It is nothing like Enron or similar to something like that. Enron was a fraud, they cheated investors and more importantly the rank and file employees, who lost most of the retirement they thought they had saved. An employee thought they could retire, had worked hard, their entire life and then Pi has 500 million, Skilling has 200 million, and the entire company for years had been nothing but a myth. Rank and file workers who had saved for decades lost nearly all of it. This however was about Volkswagen scamming the EPA, and as a tax payer for the government as well as NY state, it enrages me more that money is being wasted on this. How much money is the EPA wasting on things like this, like this non stop testing of everything? All vehicles create a tremendous amount of pollution. In the world we live in, with war, crime, terrorism, school shootings, poverty, prejudices, inequality, we certainly have much more to be worried and concerned about than a company cheating on EPA standards. Sure we all need the environment to live, but lets try to fix and work on us now, way before we look ahead, we have too much to be fixed now to concern ourselves moving forward. Society will collapse on its own, if we don't start fixing it, no need to worry about the environment doing it. Of course we should improve the environment but on a list of things to work on in society this a sub 1000 concern. The amount of money being wasted on it, is more troubling than any benefit it might provide. Sure it is a crime but its nothing like Enron, the amount of tax payer money that is being wasted on this, is far more appalling than anything Volkswagen did.
