Though the strength of Davies’s writing is inconsistent across the trilogy, the Doctor Who 60th specials are a charming (if indulgent) blast from the past that honors the show’s history while laying the groundwork for an exciting new chapter Go to Full Review

Joshua H @Jhyde Aug 6, 2026 Episode 1: 3 stars Episode 2: 4 stars Episode 3: 2 stars See more diogo13 T @Tua_mera Jul 16, 2026 1st - The nostalgic chemistry between David Tennant and Catherine Tate remains impeccable and carries the special with a lot of energy. The problem is that the script rushes the explanations too much and resorts to silly and easy resolutions for the most important conflicts, resulting in only a mediocre pastime. 2nd - An experimental episode with a good atmosphere of isolation and psychological horror. Although the bizarre copies guarantee tense moments of strangeness, the narrative loses its rhythm halfway through and drags on with repetitive chases within somewhat artificial digital sets. 3rd - Neil Patrick Harris steals the show with a brilliant and chaotic performance as the villain. However, the script rushes the ending and introduces the concept of the bi-generation in an artificial way, resolving the big climax with a childish and dramatically weightless game of steak. See more Ian M @RT64043184 Jan 2, 2026 I tried to like this, but I couldn't. Doctor Who has always pushed the envelope so to speak, and that's one of the reasons that I adore the show as much as I do, but there's a difference between pushing the envelope, and throwing a post office at people's heads. When you're trying to make a statement it's wise to exercise subtlety, tact, and finesse, while still focusing on crafting a gripping story, otherwise it just feels shallow and unimportant. I'd argue the structure of this special invites hate rather than pushes for inclusivity, because after luring old fans in with familiar faces, the story itself suffered because it was deemed more important to push contrived slop down people's throats than actually engage with an audience that was yearning for something special. See more John K @WQCMI Nov 13, 2025 I watched them when they came out with my brother and loved them. It was a great way to refresh the series after Chris Chibnall came and ruined it. The budget was bigger, the animation looked really good, the stories were fascinating and the reunion of David Tennant and Catharine Tate was like we had returned to the 2000s era of Doctor Who. Definitely wacky, but Doctor Who has never showed away from wacky before. Seeing David Tennant back as the doctor was a treat! The regeneration twist was a fun new idea to play with. Ultimately, I loved it and this special single handedly got me back into watching Who. (I even got my spouse, who was never a doctor who can, to start watching!) See more Read all reviews
