Viewers might want to break out the XXL togas, because Domina does run a bit hot, and certainly fierce.
More Wake Me Up Before You Toga than Edward Gibbon's Decline and Fall. It was fun but it felt a minor miracle that everyone involved managed to keep a straight face.
The combination of high drama and even higher production values is always an appealing one, making this an entertaining spin on ancient Rome, given depth by its compelling heroine.
The story is compelling and the production design is as terrific as the casting.
[Domina] may spend an awful lot of time on set-up, but its willingness to push boundaries and unabashedly feminist framing are reason enough to tune in next week.
It may be the latest series to be 'the next Game Of Thrones', but this gore-light blockbuster is a little too easy on the eye and unchallenging for the brain to earn that title.
Audience Reviews for Domina: Season 1
Jun 12, 2021Started off with the promise of a great historical drama but quickly morphed into a soap of repetitive crises and predictable twists and outcomes.
Jun 09, 2021I really enjoyed the fast pace of the first three episodes. After that it gets a bit tough to keep up with all the unnecessary side plots. Would like to see a second season.
Jun 08, 2021Rubbish. The studio five star reviews took longer to write than the script. Hilarious how they know what happens in each episode when only one has been released. The other one was correct if you know nothing about history or good television you will love this show.
Jun 08, 2021Even if you know the history this series is full of surprises and very different from the (ancient) classic "I, Claudius". Sometimes it is more like caper of the week as Livia extracts herself from perilous situations using her brains, beauty and ability to manipulate weaker men.
Jun 07, 2021"Gossip Girl" in togas. A huge missed opportunity to tell one of the best stories of all time. Instead does a deep disservice to history by portraying the players as revolting teenagers who lie about discussing the events that should be shown on camera.
Jun 07, 2021As someone with very little knowledge about the historical events the series is based on I found it very interessting and entertaining. Decent cast and acting. Great sets and wardrobes (maybe not the most acurate). I just wished they would have shown more of the young Livia Druscilla than only the first two episodes and painted a more detailed picure how she transformed from a intelligent, maybe a little naïve, young girl to the more ruthless and manipuliting woman. Looking forward to a second season.
