Sharey S @RT12373001 01/22/2025 Disappointing and Disturbing Content I recently watched Don’t Look Deeper, and I found it to be deeply disappointing and concerning. While the premise initially seemed intriguing, the execution left much to be desired. First and foremost, the film contains scenes that feel entirely inappropriate, resembling what could be described as exploitative and unsuitable for younger audiences. These moments are unnecessarily provocative and add nothing meaningful to the story, making them feel out of place and gratuitous. The acting was also lackluster, with performances that felt unconvincing and flat. The characters lacked depth, making it difficult to invest in their journeys or care about the plot’s outcome. Perhaps the most troubling aspect is the underlying messaging, which seemed both confused and problematic. Instead of offering a thought-provoking narrative, the film veered into territory that felt irresponsible and inappropriate for impressionable viewers. Overall, Don’t Look Deeper is a movie I cannot recommend. Its questionable content, subpar acting, and misguided themes left me feeling uneasy and disappointed. See more 08/17/2020 I was impressed by the nuanced and dynamic performances the actors, especially Helena Howard, Don Cheadle, Emily Mortimer, and Harvey Zielinski. Helena shows great range as Aisha and her many versions. The diverse cast was also a highlight. I especially appreciated the realistic representation of queer people. The show feels comfortable in its short episodes, per the Quibi format. Generally, the pacing is excellent. However, the shorter episodes meant some details were sacrificed for the sake of time. For hardcore sci-fi fans, this show might be missing the level of world-building and technical detail they are used to with different sci-fi media formats. But although I wanted to know more about the larger world this story was set in, I found the story itself was packed with a great narrative and profound themes.
