Get past the annoying theme song and hackneyed "updated lady Odd Couple" premise, and the writing is sharp and a little vicious. It was surprisingly ribald and black-hearted for network TV.

Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23 is severely lacking in wit, which essentially a show like this would need to survive.

A brilliant, yet mismanaged disaster from the get-go.

Although it bears a very typical sitcom premise, Don't Trust The B-- In Apartment 23 pilot episode was full of humor and I think that the show has a lot of potential, has long as it doesn't fall into the regular pifalls of sitcom television.

But this is no 30 Rock, which is sweet at its core despite being occasionally mean. There's no sweetness in Apartment 23. There are, however, some decent gags and great actors.

At one point she fosters a child to work as her assistant. She's precisely as awful as every scheming antihero from the golden age of TV, and it's brilliant.

[Ritter's] a breezy blast as pure, unrestrained id, and she's surrounded by a fine cast.

Raunchy and at times genuinely funny, Apartment 23 is jam-packed with promise - and inconsistencies.

The show offers dark, absurdest comedy that's refreshing, different, weird and totally worth watching.

One of the funniest of the new batch of female-centric comedies, with a fine supporting cast.

Strong ensemble, wit and James Van Der Beek as BFF make this one to watch.

Something happening in and around Apartment 23 ought to make you laugh.
April 11, 2012
Unlike some of the more uneven odd-couple series that have premiered in recent years, Apartment 23 could turn into a trustworthy address for laughs.
April 11, 2012
It's intriguing for how it balances sweetness and sleaze.
April 11, 2012
Gets a reasonable amount of comedy out of this sturdy odd-couple setup.

That isn't to say the show lacks charm, only that its irreverence and madcap energy disguises a conventional mismatched buddy comedy.

I found that, no matter what stage the friendship was in, I didn't laugh out loud all that much at any of the episodes, though I was pleased overall by the leads and surreal worldview.

A scattered, hit-or-miss proposition. Some gags land. Others fall flat.
