One can't help but feel miffed by a lack of desire on the series' part to own what it is and what it could become.

Character development and quirkiness can be swell, but the adaptation of this band of heroes spends too much time meandering -- and showing off its geek credentials -- for "Doom" deliver much of a boom.

With a super strange team like the Doom Patrol, it's different to retell any extent of a character's rise to their superhero occupation, and the risk paid off within the first episode.

A bold and exciting comic book show, whose ambition is worth your attention. Fraser, Bomer & Dalton are excellent, as to be expected, but newer faces Bowlby & Wade shine too.

The pilot isn't inspiring, but there are moments that are engaging and maybe that's enough for now. Just be sure to ask me again in a month and a half. Lots could happen till the end.

The strength of Doom Patrol is how the fun balances so well with the adult, dark elements, and none of that would work without both great writing and a stellar cast.

I still cannot shake that the special effects are not even on par with Legends of Tomorrow but there is enough here that I am interested in following this show to see where it goes.

The most novel thing about the first episode is its visual style, which transitions across time periods.

The third original series from the fledgling streaming service is wonderfully bizarre and self-aware, exactly what you'd hope for comic book characters once billed as "the World's Strangest Heroes."

They're angry, broken, and unsure of just who or what it is exactly they're meant to be-and it makes them all riveting to watch.

Doom Patrol is sufficiently eccentric to earn your attention. [Full Review in Spanish]

Doom Patrol works because it isn't afraid to be zany and it's a big part of the reason for why it's so engaging right out of the gate.

In a most welcome and unexpected surprise, DC Universe's Doom Patrol scores touchdowns right from the get-go. This is the superhero series to watch in 2019.

... Things do get more interesting once the origin stories end. Whether it's interesting enough to measure up to Legion or Umbrella Academy remains to be seen.

What makes it work, beyond the fun of the deconstruction, Tudyk's always welcomingly skewering narration and the non-stop weirdness are the performances and deep grounding in the emotional lives of the characters.
February 13, 2019
Successful in execution... because of a perfectly, wonderful villain.

Bolstered by [Brendan] Fraser's easy charm and some knockout acting by [Timothy] Dalton, Doom Patrol stakes its claim as DC's best streaming option.

Coupled with the synthesization of Bomer and Zuk's performances - each with their own strengths and gravity - Doom Patrol breathes new life in a genre that in recent years has felt calcified.

The show is absurdly watchable. Bananas, yes, but enjoyably bananas.

[T]his offbeat superhero tale is a refreshingly twisted tale accentuated by the unlikely casting of Fraser and Dalton.
