Dopesick (2021)

Season 1
Dopesick

Critics Consensus

Dopesick at times sinks under the weight of its subject matter, but strong performances from Michael Keaton and Kaitlyn Dever and an empathetic approach to the very real people impacted by the opioid crisis make for harrowing drama.

Audience Reviews for Dopesick: Season 1

An amazing portray on evil corporate strategy.

Decent enough. Kinda get tiring how every white person is a racist/"homophobe" except for a few heroes of the show and the complete rewrite they gave to james comey. Pretending that extremely corrupt liar, has any honesty or integrity is hilarious.

Great show even if it's based on a horrific topic that has needlessly killed millions of people.
  • Sep 23, 2022
Well...it was going OK until the director decided to make Episode 3 a propaganda piece on being gay and family relations regarding it. What? I thought this was a film about opioids? I put up with it for a bit, but then the Keaton speech and her Dad's speech at the table...I shut it off never to watch again. Dishonesty in film is the worst. I have no issue with the message, but the tactics were bush league. Frustrating.

So well done. Shows just how broken are for profit heath system is. Good storytelling and acting. Very educational as well. Hulu has become my go to source for original programming. The Dropout was excellent as well. Keep up the good work HULU.

Extremely well acted piece about a terrifying reality.
  • Aug 19, 2022
    Fascinating and scary.

Another production that isn't about what it is about. It is just another thinly veiled attack on middle America by people who know nothing about it. It is hard to reconcile a plot of "aren't drug companies bad for addicting and killing these people" when all of your supporting themes are entirely about how backwards and dumb the very same people are. I could have sworn Hollywood spent the last few years preaching the virtue of drug companies testing experimental and useless vaccines on the same population.

When it focused on the Sacklers, on the lawyers, on the premise of the Oxy crisis... it was good and interesting. But a lot of subplots pushing an agenda that do not add to the main premise of the show. Props to Michael Stuhlbarg who shined in the role of Richard Sackler. Watchable, only a soft recommendation from me.
