With a good remote to skip 20% of each episode than it is very watchable. See more Ian R @RT23899272 Oct 4 I'm Australian and previously not familiar with Michael Keaton. This series intensely followed the story of the destruction that OxyContin caused in the US. It spans the lives the of the greedy family behind the pharmaceutical company that created and sold it, mostly by following the process of the government attorneys investigating who was responsible for the release of OxyContin into American society. The series uses a small town Appalachian mining community as a window into the lives of ordinary people that were destroyed by OxyContin. The town's Doctor. is brilliantly played by Michael Keaton. Whilst not a happy story, there is enough suspense between episodes that kept me watching and especially wondering about what was going to happen next. Every member of the cast fit their role and the whole thing is given a touch of class by Keaton and of course Rosario Dawson. Definitely worth the time to watch. Solid 4 stars for me. The suffering still continues to this day and the victims continue to be ignored. Pharmaceutical companies run this country, just count the ads on TV. Just count how many times the 24 hour news repeats: 'Brought to you by Pfizer.' The problem is the system and its priorities. See more Riccardo D @RickDB Aug 4 Absolutely heartbreaking, yet an important show to watch to understand what when on in the US for over 20 years and caused countless deaths, all in the name of money and greed. An important document showing witness of how corrupt the US system is and how they actively tried (and sometimes succeded in other industries) to export it abroad. Finally, people have been held accountable for their crimes, but no one will give the departed loved ones back to those many families that were scarred for life. Dura, cruda y necesaria, se mete de lleno en una de las mayores tragedias sanitarias de las últimas décadas: la crisis de los opiáceos en Estados Unidos. Lo hace sin rodeos, con personajes que vienen de todos los frentes —médicos, agentes del FBI, víctimas, fiscales— y un enemigo común con nombre propio: Purdue Pharma. Y lo más escalofriante es que todo lo que cuenta es real. Michael Keaton está enorme, pero no es el único que brilla. Hay momentos tan tensos como emotivos, sin perder nunca de vista el mensaje: aquí lo que se denuncia es un sistema que permitió que una farmacéutica comprara voluntades, mintiera de forma descarada y provocara miles de muertes mientras se llenaban los bolsillos. Harsh, raw, and essential, it dives headfirst into one of the most devastating health crises of recent decades: the opioid epidemic in the United States. It doesn’t pull any punches, weaving together characters from every angle — doctors, FBI agents, victims, prosecutors — with a common enemy that has a very real name: Purdue Pharma. And the most chilling part is that everything it shows actually happened. Michael Keaton is outstanding, but he’s not the only one who shines. There are moments of intense drama and emotion, always with the same message in sight: this is a story about a system that allowed a pharmaceutical company to buy influence, lie shamelessly, and cause thousands of deaths while making billions. And although justice arrives late, at least it arrives. Narratively, it may lose a bit of pace at times, and the constant timeline shifts can be disorienting at first, but once it all starts to come together, the result is gripping. And when the puzzle pieces finally fit, the impact is huge. Dopesick is one of those series that stirs you and makes you think — but also keeps you hooked. Exactly what a great true story should do. Some storylines are great while others are difficult to get through, so you'll probably find yourself skipping about 1/5 of each episode. The Sackler and Justice Department are the best segments, the Sales team is a decent storyline, and then Rosario Dawson and the West Virginia segments are probably the toughest parts of the show. Keaton's is somewhere in the middle. The acting and writing get 5-stars regardless of how enjoyable the various storylines are. See more Read all reviews
