Critic Reviews for DOTA: Dragon's Blood Season 1

The series gets increasingly mired down in arcane and diffuse lore, yielding a befuddling and scattered narrative.

Engrossing storytelling that will satisfy both those familiar with the video-game it is based on and those who are not. The animation isn't groundbreaking, but the character development makes up for that.

If there's one main thing that's clear about DOTA: Dragon's Blood, it's just a fun time. It's full of fun fantasy lore that an inexperienced DOTA 2 fan like me enjoyed while offering episodes full of wit, charm, and great-looking fights.

Somehow less interesting than playing the game, especially if you're interested in learning more about the universe and lore.

Certain ideas needed a bit more context to build off of, but the world-building and characters make for an entertaining start.

Dota: Dragon's Blood successfully fuses plenty of existing Dota lore with an original story for eight episodes of humor and action in a fantasy universe.

Dragon's Blood is smart in that it doesn't assume the viewer has much knowledge of the franchise. Unfortunately, it never inspired me to dig deeper, either.

After pressing play I couldn't stop until completing all 8 fantastic episodes, loving its engrossing story, well-developed characters, beautiful animation, exciting soundtrack, and intense action sequences [Full review in Spanish]

Each character's backstory is packed with a wealth of conflict and appeal, that the little we do get from them, is well worth the watch. The fantasy setting is, likewise, undeniably an engaging genre.

A bloody anime with a captivating main story that will hold your attention and have you begging for more.

Audience Reviews for DOTA: Dragon's Blood: Season 1

Unlike the MOBA game that it's based off of, DOTA: Dragon's Blood is surprisingly accessible. Commendably well written, animated and decently voice acted which are all 3 rare things to check off for Anime-style Western shows. I think the script could use a little more charm, but at the same time the tone of the series isn't as light hearted as what I'm use to with Studio Mir (Korra, Voltron) If you're into medieval fantasy stories with deep respectable lore I recommend putting this on your watch list!

Well, if you like the heroic fantasy genre, this is for you. Artistically beautiful and well animated. Simple but good story. Loved it. Need more show like that!

Watch all 8 episodes today yes it was great can't wait for more.

DOTA's appeal is in its characters. They run together pretty well, play off one another to keept the story going forward and have some pretty good, if not original, designs. The lotus is a typical plot device typical to fantasy and is what drives the overall story like any plot device. The interesting story parts are the subplots, however, such as the dragon knight's possession and the mysterious wizard's family story. And there is quite a bit of story cobbled together in these few eight episodes but it isn't jarring and gives the entire season a kinetic feel. I've never heard of the video game so I can't compare to this. It's hooked me w/it's characters and I would like to see more of their journey.

Absolutely loved this. A lot of critics said it was "trying to be Castlevania" but it certainly is not. This was a breath of fresh air that gave more life to the world of DOTA and is a fun, action packed series. No dumb politics. Just entertainment.

Would've been an easy 5 star review if the episodes were just a little bit longer. Things feel a little bit rushed in terms of story telling but the animations and the universe is really good. I can't wait for the next seasons!!

Great show, It is way better than I was expecting, the universe and characters are well done, the audio on the show is great. I wish the episodes were longer though, can't wait for next books.

I found it to be a good series. The characters motivations made sense and were constant. The animation was top tier throughout the series with no completes from me. Without knowing anything about the setting from the game the anime never lost me and was focused (mostly) around one character and how characters relate to them with a little bit about dragons and demons with their relations being a little less direct. All in all very good

epic delivering of scenes, storyline, and music score. Hated the game (due to the community) but this makes me wanted to play it again

It's just good. Good story good plot. You great character development. You get invested. In these characters. You don't know what's going to happen next. I'm guessing maybe the story is taken from a series of books. Really good. Whatever it is the more I watch the more invested I get into this story.
