Critic reviews for Episode 3

The first two installments of the season were lackluster, but episode three brings some sharper writing, sly performances, and a surprise that should be infuriating but manages to delight instead.

Downton excels as feel-good comedy, and last night's plot showed off the script at its best.

The only thing worse than Anna's history with pregnancies is Edith's history with men... so I'm especially thrilled about the new man in her life.

Heartbreaking! Molesley is one of the most consistently good-hearted and kind characters on Downton Abbey.

We'll see where Tom fits into Mary's new role, Lady Grantham's fight against modernization, and the rest of the Downton clan, but I enter this plot development with a bit of wariness as to how to properly integrate a character who seemed gone forever.
