That Dr. Ken should be so unexciting seems both a shame and somewhat ironic given the kudos being heaped on ABC for the diversity of its fall lineup.

Dr. Ken, starring The Hangover and Community's Ken Jeong, is just a hard skip. A hard, hard skip. Just, don't. Okay? Don't.

ABC's Dr. Ken, starring The Hangover breakout Ken Jeong, is so painful to watch it should come with a prescription for Vicodin. Or a lobotomy

Sep 21, 2015 | Full Review…

This may be the most likable character Jeong's ever played, but he's too milquetoast and rote - he puts a GPS tracker on his daughter's phone and hijinks ensue! - to garner much enthusiasm.

Dr. Ken, with its focus-group humor and pandering performances, is as forced and empty as anything to debut on network television in 2015.

Mar 6, 2020 | Full Review…

The show is largely unremarkable. Its only ambition appears to be cramming as many tropes as it can into 20-odd minutes in each episode: the clueless dad who keeps messing up, his sensible and long-suffering wife and their precocious, wise-cracking kids.

For an actor who knows how to make the most out of small parts, Jeong manages to thoroughly squander his chance at a starring role.

"I know that there are some disturbing and repetitive shows out there," a cardboard cutout of a side character mentions in Dr. Ken's inexorably humorless pilot. Oh, you have no idea.

I love Dr. Ken, I enjoyed the show a lot!

    Really funny and wholesome.

    I quite liked this show.

A truly original guy! I like his dry humor and mimics. I suspect that COMMUNITY has damaged his character by locking him in the "evil & stupid but funny asian" stereotype. Sad really. He deserves MUCH more!
  • Mar 24, 2017
Ken Jeong's jokes and golden funny acting can't make up for empty balloon screenplays that don't match the solid story structures of ABC's other Asian-American sitcom Fresh Off the Boat.
  • Jun 03, 2016
Love it but understand if you don't give it a fair shot why it's reviews are low. Watch several episodes before judging and do yourself a favor. Family casting is perfect from the get go but the work casting needs time to grow on you if you let it. The humor is meant to be embarrassing for Dr Ken and when you realize that you get to appreciate the witty behind it and can relate more than you first thought.

I kind of like this show. It's not as dreadful as critics lead people to believe. This isn't the best show ever developed, but it's not the worse either. The premise is fun and I like the characters.

I love this new series. Hopefully it will stay around. The story lines are a little predictible, but all in all a good family based show.
