Based on the popular film "The Witches of Eastwick" and the novel of the same name by John Updike, "Eastwick" tells the story of three very different women -- Roxie, Kat, and Johanna -- who are drawn together after a weird encounter in the park and a few martinis. Enter Darryl Van Horne. The wealthy, mysterious and sexy new guy in town is irresistible to the trio, and he unleashes unique powers in each of them. As the women cultivate their newfound talents, the lives of other locals in their town are also affected, and some not for the better.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

While the cast and the fantastical tone are decent, Eastwick is too busy sampling different genres to decide what kind of show it wants to be.

In ABC's hands, Updike's horrifically inaccurate vision of the internal lives of women becomes even less apt than usual. Go to Full Review

The show looks like a low-rent knock-off of the movie and takes ages to settle into an uneasy, ho-hum blend of comedy and drama. It utterly lacks charm. Go to Full Review

Eastwick, which decidedly lacks the charm of Charmed, doesn't seem worth all the hubble bubble toil and trouble. Which is a shame, because the fantasy elements are all there on paper. But the execution is paper-thin, potty-mouthed and altogether puerile. Go to Full Review

The first hour isn't bad, although the stars aren't exactly Cher, Susan Sarandon and Michelle Pfeiffer. And Gross is miscast as the male lead - Jack Nicholson, he's not. But it seems like pleasant enough fluff. Go to Full Review
