Critics Consensus

Alaqua Cox makes Echo's first season consistently worth watching, while hard-hitting action and fresh narrative elements suggest strong potential for this slow-building series.

Despite the additional blood and pulled-back quips, it’s classic MCU TV, shaped and reshaped and misshapen until it gets lost in a netherworld between feature film and television. Go to Full Review

The action scenes have spark, and the show builds some steam, but it’s neither self-contained nor restorative. Marvel’s best bet might be an extended break. Go to Full Review

[The show] wants Maya to be a human being rather than a superhero but can’t get out of the habit of writing her as a construct instead of a character. Go to Full Review

Alaqua Cox brings an intensity to Maya that is perfect for the MCU’s first TV-MA rated project. Go to Full Review

The best part of this show are all these characters, including, I will say, Kingpin, which I never thought I’d be saying. Go to Full Review

D’Onofrio’s return is a highlight of the series. His villainous portrayal has been lauded since first appearing in the Netflix Daredevil series and his transition into the MCU has been a breath of fresh air. Go to Full Review

Derek B @RT09342511 2h There is an unwarranted and baffling echo chamber of dislike for this series. Don't trust the audience score, and for that matter, even the critics rating, as this is a top-tier and well executed series. Exciting, poignant story arc, adept action sequences, fluid story and tone. See more Cass M @sandrameade83 May 18 A must see and I am sad there was only one season because growing up there was no real Indigenous representation. See more B B @RT19359529 Mar 25 The low ratings are coming from a certain demographic of men. The show was great! See more Jaycen D. @JDtheGoat Mar 12 I finally gave in and watched this, and I watched it all in a day. It’s somehow not bad like everyone else says it is. Sure, some things are a little clunky and messy, but the character of Maya is very interesting and her arc in this being a continuation of what we saw in Hawkeye. I loved her plot with Wilson Fisk, and those moments really shined through. Everything outside of them is just okay. The action and fight choreography is fun. Just a good time, I really don’t get all the hate for this. See more lya tony ! T @lyatony Feb 10 no idea why people are trashing so hard on it. sure, its not perfect, but I had quite a lot of fun watching it. it's tense, quiet for obvious reasons which adds to the atmosphere, music choices are great, the actors are phenomenal, especially Alaqua, she's absolutely amazing. It's slow, but I like the pace. Thought it had more episodes, tho :P See more Daniel M @SaintRonan Feb 1 I am absolutely bewildered at how this has received such a low rating, and been so poorly reviewed. This is one of the best Marvel series ever made! I absolutely loved it! It easily stans with giants like the Daredevil series. I prefer this over Iron Fist, or Jessica Jones. It also adds some great back story to King Pin and some of the things happening behind the scenes. The acting was fantastic, the characters were excellent. Definitely worth checking out.
