John Doyle Globe and Mail 12/10/2021
It's horror and it's an addictive little series, more like The Wicker Man than holiday-themed fluff. And if you've ever wondered, perversely, what a Scandi-noir take on cheery Christmas fare would look like, this is it. Go to Full Review

I'd hunker down with ET or The Wicker Man again instead, if I were you, depending which way the season of goodwill takes you. Go to Full Review

This distinct creature-feature in the form of a swift, straightforward and exquisitely shot TV series is a welcome addition to the world of hinterland horror. Go to Full Review

This teen thriller builds suspense and doesn't rely on constant gratuitous violence, but it leans into lazy stereotypes. Go to Full Review

Too often, Elves doesn't seem to know if it's designed for kids or adults, but at least it's counterprogramming to the overly saccharine holiday shows we usually get this time of year. Go to Full Review
Pat Stacey Irish Independent 12/03/2021
At six episodes of roughly 22 minutes each, it's short, yet the material still feels over-extended. It probably would have worked better as a film, where the characters' lack of depth might not have been so damaging. Go to Full Review

Hell M @HellMaidenheretocausechaos1 Jan 6 People hating on a show I like... Why I never... It's a good show in my opinion but I like horror plus curiousity beats natural instinct in some cases. If you hear an unfamiliar noise of course you're going to check it out.. I do it all the time! See more Nianjia S @Ningin Dec 23 Rage bait. The protagonist is so annoying and entitled. She literally endangered the entire population just so she can have a pet labubu. See more Aleksandra M @AlexisMarch Dec 21 The show frustrated me so much that I created an account specifically just to rate it. Elves has an interesting concept, but the execution is terrible. The story is full of illogical decisions and a complete lack of consequences — local people die, yet no one seems truly affected. The main character insists on freeing a young elf despite knowing how aggressive and deadly the adults are, while the city family is irritating, entitled, and disconnected from the danger. Characters behave unrealistically, ignoring basic survival instincts, and the ending lacks any real sense of fear or trauma. See more Joseph F @RT78088627 Oct 9 After causing the chaos and many deaths, the family left the island happily. The ending is too ridiculous. See more Stephen C @bob25009 06/02/2025 6 unsuccessful horror episodes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In Danish and English versions with English subtitles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! See more Dave C @RT09838700 11/26/2023 Not the taut chiller I'd expected, given its strong premise and Danish genes. The director has not done too many feature films, though his previous effort was an epic - e'en if a number of people didn't see it as such. I think this - his latest effort, is let down by the writing, in allowing the menacing antagonists to be seen more as cute and amiable than ancient spectres, and not giving anywhere near enough attention to character development. Having decided to make this a series, there's not really much of an excuse to miss a critical element of the story. It is enjoyable, and generally well acted, but it could have been so much stronger, mysterious, and chilling See more Read all reviews
