Endeavour: Series 2 Photos

Tv Season Info

It's the spring of 1966. After recovering from his injuries and dealing with the death of his father, Detective Constable Endeavour Morse (Shaun Evans) returns to active duty at Cowley Police Station under the supervision and mentorship of Detective Chief Inspector Fred Thursday (Roger Allam). There he immediately dives into solving a recent spate of local crimes that seem to be related to the 900th celebration of the Battle of Hastings. Despite being in the peak of physical health, Morse appears to be suffering from post-traumatic stress from his previous injuries. In the meantime, he attracts the interest of his neighbor, the nurse Monica Hicks (Shvorne Marks) and D.C.I. Thursday's daughter Joan (Sara Vickers). Season 2 of "Endeavour" also stars Anton Lesser as Chief Superintendent Reginald Bright, Jack Laskey as Detective Sergeant Peter Jakes, Sean Rigby as Police Constable Jim Strange, and James Bradshaw as Dr. Max DeBryn.

Critic Reviews for Endeavour Series 2

It's rare that a TV programme actually makes me doubt my own sanity, but the bundle of demented revelations that crowned the return of Endeavour had me convinced that I must either be losing it or have fallen asleep somewhere in the previous 90 minutes.

Like all prequels, Endeavour faces a problem: how to satisfy Morse aficionados without alienating new viewers.

Fascinating are Argento-esque touches that emphasize menacing black-gloved killers and macabre weaponry, but Series 2 doesn't have the energy to follow through on this promising development, content to tease and back away.

The new series features plenty of opera and wordplay for aficionados.

It is, nevertheless, very charming, in an understated-English kind of way. It also remains in keeping with the spirit of Morse, and is certainly superior to its sequel.

If you thought John Thaw's Morse was improbably clever, his younger self in this Sixties-set prequel really does test credulity - and not just the viewer's.
