Critic Reviews for Family Reunion Part 1

All Critics (6) | Top Critics (2)

This series would fail a critic's very basic tests for what constitutes a good comedy and feels intentionally pandering to people of color...

Jul 9, 2019 | Full Review…

Family Reunion plays like a kid-centric Disney Channel sitcom or something out of ABC's old TGIF lineup (once home to Mowry's "Sister, Sister").

Jul 9, 2019 | Full Review…

This series doesn't lack seasoned actors and actresses, but the kids bring the laughs and the show itself to new heights.

Aug 12, 2019 | Full Review…

Heartwarming, if uneven, sitcom about family relationships.

Jul 24, 2019 | Rating: 3/5 | Full Review…

Family Reunion is definitely old-fashioned in many ways. But it's also got some fine performances, occasionally smart writing, and it discusses issues that will make you and your kids think between the laughs.

Jul 11, 2019 | Full Review…

Family Reunion frequently mentions hot-button issues and toes the line of saying something interesting, only to settle for safer punchlines.

I love this show I watch it with my kids.

Review is of Season 1 and 2. Season 1 is ok you meet the characters season 2 its getting better with more laughs although they seams to call them part 1 and 2 maybe it's a new Netflix therm for season, No spoilers ahead. But it kinda perches religion and it doesn't at the same time the 2 main older characters, a preacher and the preachers wife try to make there grandchildren find religion while the grandkids who respect there grandparents are not interested. This kinda sums up what I'm trying to say..... Grandfather the pastor: Try find religion grandkids do it for me! Kids turn on sister act. One episode the kids father who is called Moses haha doubts religion and tells his wife he never really had faith falls and hits his head than had a vision of life after death with a vision of his own grandparents. No more is said of it but it's where I kinda find the preaching aspect, I like all religions you do you and be happy.

The show takes time to potray black people problems albeit from a high middle class stand point

In an era lacking African American sitcoms, family reunion is a much welcomed breathe of fresh air which I hope lives on to see many more seasons because we need it !

This show is great it feels good to have an African American sitcom to watch since there are little being made anymore. It also touches on a lot of topics and issues in today's society.

Hilariously funny! Great innuendos that highlight some of the best aspects of growing up in a southern black family.
  • Sep 21, 2019
Very sweet and wholesome family show. Very afro-american-centric, but can be a learning experience for all families. Sometimes can feel Disney Channel cheese-fest but there are enough eye opening and touching moments to make up for it. I recommend to watch as a family or if you are just tired of all the excessive "adult" things on television these days.
