Alan M 04/30/2023 Failed revival of a classic 70's feel good tv show that takes itself to seriously and misses the point of the original & why people watched it. Rosalind Sanchez is a very good comedic actress but the writing and direction manages to remove that quality and is reflected in the rest of the show where instead of making you smile and forgetting your problems for an hour ends up leaving you flat. See more 09/29/2021 I grew up watching the original series, and even as a young girl at the time, I found Mr. Roarke mysterious and alluring. At first I thought the new twist of having his niece take over his duties was a nice modern twist. After watching the first few episodes, however, I find that the new version focuses too much on the main characters. If you learn too much about the main characters upfront, the story line soon gets inane. For longevity and interest, the writing needs to focus on the visitors coming to the island and the story line needs to be broadened to appeal to a wider audience rather than a small demographic. I am almost angry at how the writers tainted such a classic series. The new series is consumed with Ruby's desire to be with women, and coupled with the episode, "The Romance and the Bromance" it was just too much. I know this is 2021, but the allure of the original is what people are expecting and wanting. We could all use an evening on Fantasy Island and escape for a while, especially now. However, I'm already bored. I initially set my DVR to record the new series thinking I would just automatically love it. Ironically, my DVR started recording the original series as well, and I started watching those instead. Even with the blurry picture and outdated sound, I fell in love with Mr. Rourke again.
