What to Know

Critics Consensus

A back-to-basics caper populated by the likes of a mesmerizing Juno Temple and a thick slice of Hamm, Fargo's fifth season is a superb return to peak form.

Season 5 restores the dark-comic tone — that existential screwball, a play on Joel and Ethan’s — but still succumbs to some of the same problems, like Hawley’s increasing preference for loudly stated themes and clashing acting styles. Go to Full Review

Much of the pleasure of this Fargo season has come from watching her MacGyver herself out of peril with wicked smarts. But despite Dot’s savviness, the viewer is never quite convinced that she’s out of trouble. Go to Full Review

There are moments when Season 5 of Fargo seems to be trying almost too hard to be weird and great, but that's a fine ambition to have. There are also moments of absolutely inspired lunacy. Go to Full Review

Season 5 feels more like an event than just one more season of the show. In an age when the avalanche of content seems infinite, it feels great that the show takes its time to come up with the best possible story before coming back to our screens. Go to Full Review

Fargo understands this rage more fully, partially because it understands that the battle for patriarchal power is far from over... Go to Full Review

This iteration blissfully delivers the desired off-beat humor and distinctive, inimitable violence. Go to Full Review

Sandra A @Sancan Jan 30 Fargo 5 was great positive surprise. Very well balanced, well paced, great acting, original ending. It looks all team members made their job. See more Marco T Jan 14 Fantastic show and season. The grandma and Munch are insanely well played. As every Fargo season, watch it in the deepest winter you can get at your latitude. See more Fred F @Fargo Jan 7 This series started out well but was all downhill after series 2. See more German H @germanh Jan 2 total masterpiece. best season yet See more Mark B Oct 10 I just watched Fargo all the way through, and up until Season 5 I thought 1 and 2 were the strongest. But Season 5 is the best season of any show in recent memory. Juno Temple is a revelation as a tiger pretending to be a sheep, while Jon Hamm has never been better than here as a vengeance-driven, wife-abusing sheriff. This season is an allegory for Trump's America: Those who have everything believe they are entitled to something from those with little to lose, while those with nothing have to fight tooth and nail to survive. But retribution is ever-looming, as is redemption for those open to accepting it. See more Adam @RickBrewster Aug 20 Unfortunately plagued almost compulsively with non stop repeated story of abused women and powerplay women. That story is the most overused theme in every TV series today-1923,true detective, Fargo and many others... It's boring and way too predictable at this point. So you're looking for something fresh then don't bother Great role of richa moorjani. See more Read all reviews
