Fear the Walking Dead: Season 5 (2019)

SEASON:

Season 5
Fear the Walking Dead

Critics Consensus

Despite delivering some memorable and splatter-filled zombie set-pieces that fans crave, Fear the Walking Dead feels stiff with early-onset rigor mortis in a fifth season that emphasizes altruism over coherent characterization.

Critic Reviews for Fear the Walking Dead Season 5

There are major plot developments worth looking forward to.

Jun 18, 2019 | Full Review…

Treating the audience like it isn't smart enough to apply logic is not a good move. Fear the Walking Dead threw a lot of logic and rules out the window this season, right down to having a couple of people soaring in a hot air balloon.

Fear the Walking Dead returned for its fifth season with a bang, but there was also an intriguing Rick Grimes Easter egg that may have teased a connection to the wider universe.

Sep 30, 2019 | Full Review…

Perhaps this new connection to a bigger overarching story will make a once ancillary show more necessary viewing for hardcore fans. Let's just hope this season's new villains turn out to be more interesting than last season's murderous, rambling Martha.

Fear is at an interesting stage in its lifespan. Hopefully the series will continue on this course for the foreseeable future.

One of the major problems is that there are few great characters left on "Fear TWD."

If the premiere is any indication, Fear the Walking Dead is going to settle into its stride nicely.

Jun 18, 2019 | Full Review…

If we're going to watch a spin-off that's becoming centered around expanding the mysteries of "TWD," I'd love to see a bold "Fear" which cleaves away at some of the fat while doing so.

Audience Reviews for Fear the Walking Dead: Season 5

  • Aug 17, 2020
Far from awesome like season 4 was - but nevertheless, highly enjoyable at times

Season 5 is really bad and is getting worse with every episode. Episode 9 was the worst ever. What are the writers thinking. It's already unrealistic but they went over the top with unrealism. Repairing a plane with no skills at all, probably magic. And that's not the only thing which is unrealistic. Also too much melodrama, too much of wanting to be a good guy, too much unrealistic feminist supergirl shit. Its getting boring. Those people would never survive if it was for real.

Despite a half-decent previous season, new showrunners, Andrew Chambliss & Ian Goldberg take full control of Fear the Walking Dead in Season 5 and gives an extreme shift in both tone and writing, allowing it to feel pretentious and immature at certain moments.

Desde la cuarta temporada FTWD ha mejorado bastante en su calidad.

What a shame! What a disgrace! What an offense to the fans of the FTWD and TWD universe! These were my 2 favorite shows of all times, season 1,2,3 of FTWD were amazing, but the new showrunners ruined it all! FTWD season 4 but especially season 5 have become the most boring show ever! It's just unbelievable how they managed to even be hired! Everything has become unbearable and ridiculous! I can't stand anymore the constant grey filter, all the characters have become bland and soft goody-goodies who only want to help people! Morgan makes me cringe everytime he says something, and I really miss Kim Dickens (Madison Clark)! Fans who are disapointed like me and want things to change can sign this petition to fire these 2 terrible showrunners! Just google "FIRE ANDREW CHAMBLISS AND IAN GOLDBERG".

"Fear The Walking Dead" is honestly the worst show on television, hands down. Season 5 in particular is so awful, it actually makes me want to see each and every character torn up by zombies! First off, there's nothing remotely interesting about the characters or the plotlines. This selfish need of Morgan & his followers to help people who don't even want their help is disturbing. They even spent a whole episode filming an infomercial on how they can help! There is nothing scary or interesting about this series. Just a bunch of selfish people who need redemption and feel they can get it by offering help, even if it's not wanted. They want to help so badly, they should help this show by getting rid of their showrunners for the dreadful writing. You know a show is doomed when you start cheering for the zombies to kill off all these dreadful characters!

Tried my best to enjoy this show due to my girlfriend being a fan. Picked it up during season 4. This is hard to watch, characters are annoying, plots repeat, and just as soon as something wraps up another big bad instantly shows up and starts the same crap all over again. I will not watch anymore and don't understand the popularity of the franchise.

Worst piece of writing ever! Diesel trucks don't run on gasoline, guns run out of bullets, batteries die, and to escape the dead, all you have to do is cover yourself with dead guts and blood. This show used to be good! The writers killed it. I finally just turned it off because of the boring interviews. Fire the writers or cancel the show!

Most of us hardcore walking dead fans will probably accommodate the bad writing, plot holes, boring and unnecessary scenes, But one thing they completely messed up was the villains. The villains in this season are so soft that they should have been killed when the zombie-apocalypse started. I'm sorry but its time for this show to end, they should crossover with the walking dead already because we don't deserve this and honestly we are just tired!!!

So disappointing because they destroyed this show. Once it got to season 4 everything changed and the characters are all the same now, even the originals lost all their character from the previous seasons. The writing is so bad and cheesy and the characters are making stupid decisions. In the beginning it was about adapting to the apocalypse and constantly being on edge and uncomfortable, now it's really boring and dull and I'm struggling to keep watching
