Boston-based home renovation experts and husband-wife team Mike and Denese Butler fix what they refer to as "Frankenstein" houses. These are older homes that have become filled with wonky layouts, misplaced staircases and maze-like hallways as different owners make changes over the years. Mike employs his construction know-how to create a functional flow, while Denese will capture the clients' style with custom finishes. By blending elements of the older homes' charm with modern design, the couple will produce stunning and cohesive spaces. Throughtout the episodes, Mike and Denese will overcome choppy rooms and wasted square footage for clients and work with their dads -- master carpenters John Butler and Peter Doyle -- to deliver one-of-a-kind projects for each family.

A B. @PassthePopcorn Jun 23 I have a long-time passion for residential architecture, space planning & design. So I enjoy watching how M & D Butler navigate their way through puzzling floor plans & client tastes to deliver reimagined spaces. The format (w/ walk-throughs & regular displays of each home’s floor plans) allows for an interactive experience, where I can imagine how I might solve problems and then see how the Butlers solve the problem. Sometimes I agree with their designs, sometimes I don’t; but it’s always interesting to see different solutions. And their humor plays well off each other. The show is edited well to move along at a good pace; & I get the impression they both sincerely care about delivering a product to improve their clients’ lives. Their reveals feel like they are getting stronger each season. Hoping this show continues to be renewed. See more Jo U @RT16947747 May 31 This is one of my favorite HGTV shows! Mike and Denese Butler do a fantastic job. I enjoy their personalities and interactions. Each show is so different with the unique problems to solve with the spaces in these "Frankenhouses". Mike is a great spatial problem solver and Denese is such a talented designer. I have actually found myself watching their show with a smile on my face! I can't wait for more episodes! See more jayne p @RT03827650 May 8 Mike is pretty amazing. His vision and creativity are outstanding. I tolerate the wife. Some of her designs are interesting but some of her choices are just tacky. Someone said she was needlessly overacting and that's pretty accurate. She's just not that interesting a personality for TV. See more Dr B J D @bjdgrad1 Apr 10 I think this show is great. Unlike the typical renovation shows the houses they tackle are particularly difficult as not only do rooms in the house need renovating, but the layouts of the houses are ridiculously disorganized with stairs and doors leading to nowhere, and even in one episode a shower in a clothes closet. To designing for these houses is really challenging. The husband is a solid builder and the wife can be a bit excited but does a very good job of making sense out of nonsense. I think the reasons for all the negative feedback on her has nothing to do with her design. The persons whose opinion matters the most are the clients and they love her work. In their most recent episode the homeowner, who was not at all easy to satisfy, was brought to tears she was so happy. And importantly they now want them to comeback and do their upstairs - nuff said. See more Read all reviews
