Plastique

EPISODE:

TOMATOMETER

Critic Consensus: The Flash's formula begins to show in an entry that nevertheless provides a compelling and tragic villain-of-the-week.

Critic Reviews for Plastique

Fortunately, none of the show's momentum was slowed as we get another enjoyable adventure with the fastest hero on network TV.

Let's just say The Flash pretty much stays the course in "Plastique." The good stuff is still good, the weak parts are still weak, and the Harrison Wells reveal at the end of the episode is still awesomely mysterious.

With the focus on Bette Sans Souci's plight as much as Barry's, the show proved that the villains don't always have to play second fiddle to the heroes.

Still, "Plastique" ends up being the weakest episode of The Flash so far... The villain of the week format, and Plastique herself, really highlighted the show's limitations. This is the first time I've really felt like, "this is all you've got?"

Although I didn't expect The Flash to start working Grodd in the show so early, I'm very excited because it's great to see the series fleshing out more of The Flash's enemies. You can never have too many villains.

The Flash continues to be a high-energy hour of television with compelling stories, sympathetic character relationships, and excellent action sequences week to week.

The fifth episode of what could be so much more; doesn't Barry Allen deserve more than this? This episode introduces the aptly named, Plastique, who is as disposable as her name suggests.

I feel torn about the A-plot... But "Plastique" offers far more than the A plot, particularly in terms of Barry's own abilities.

These are already familiar ingredients for this show, but the episode does something more interesting with Bette Sans Souci (inevitably dubbed Plastique by Cisco) than with past one-off threats like Multiplex and the Mist.

Sans Souci's dilemma created a number of threads that, while never felt fully tied together by the end, were still interesting enough.
