What to Know

Critics Consensus

Foundation's narratively knotty third season doesn't quite measure up to its superb predecessor, but this sci-fi epic endures as a faithful and well-acted adaptation of Isaac Asimov's masterpiece.

[Pilou Asbaek's] demonstrations add an element of horror to Foundation, which also has a sly sense of humour sneaking through. Of the many fantastical elements manifesting here, influencer satire was the least expected. Go to Full Review

Ludicrous, lavish and larkingly largely than life, it is one of the most bonkers TV shows ever made and all the richer for that lack of inhibition. Foundation is science fiction with rocket jets cranked to the max... Go to Full Review

Continues to put the rest of its small-screen genre brethren to shame with its momentous, magnificent third season. Go to Full Review

The changes from the novels, which are noticeable from the outset,...have become more pronounced with the same pace as the series' virtues. Go to Full Review

The juxtaposition of the mighty and the micro, supported by stunning production values, makes the war between Jared Harris’ psycho-historian, Lee Pace’s clone Empire, and Pilou Asbæk’s unpredictably charming Mule irresistible Go to Full Review

This season swings for the fences hard, which is excellent. I wish the flight there hadn’t been quite so bumpy. Go to Full Review

Kolby G @good_or_noe 3d A total train wreck. Season 3 marks the point where the show has completely lost its way. The miscasting is glaring, and the decision to continuously alter characters into unrecognizable versions of their book counterparts makes for a frustrating, hollow experience. Even the production value can't hide the fact that the writing has plummeted. The story doesn't just stray from Asimov's vision anymore—it actively works against it with logic that simply doesn't fit. Save your time and skip it. See more Daniel O @Olshansk 6d Every season of _Foundation_ keeps getting better. The characters are merging with the actors. The plot is becoming more intricate. The stakes keep rising. This season took turns I never expected. More importantly, it shows that everyone has weaknesses. Power, wealth, intelligence, abilities, love, even different forms of existence are never perfect. No one is ever fully content, no matter what or how much they have. Whether you're human, a robot, or even a god, existence and meaning are questioned by everyone. Wrap all of that in a science fiction epic by Isaac Asimov, with Apple’s creative freedom and budget, and you get _Foundation_ at its best. I can’t wait for season 4. See more Lonely S @Loneshark Jan 13 The cursed of the Asimov adaptation has not lifted, unfortunately. I'm not sure who the audience for this is. Is neither entertaining or loyal to the source material. It's hard to believe there will be a season 4. The casting is a mixed bag. The co-lead characters are dragged down by the female lead who is quite possibly one of the worst and most uncharismatic actresses ever to disgraced streaming networks. A total plank of wood. Her narration is as good a valium. The same goes to much of the cast. They just can't rely on 3 actors in a very large (and mediocre) ensemble to carry the entire show. Ultimately it was a terrible decision to try to adapt the foundation books. And Goyer was a terrible choice as a producer/show runner See more Stephen G. @Mangaloverx999x Jan 4 Never before have i enjoyed every season like I have with this. See more Myles H @myleshungerford Dec 21 Such a silly premise. Apparently using maths you can predict the future of humanity more than 100 years from now. What a joke. Faster than light travel is less far fetched. See more Mike G. @Zerocool700 Dec 12 Very good, BT they cud focus more on the robots .. See more Read all reviews
