What to Know

Critics Consensus

Frayed's intentionally cringe humor may be squirm-inducing, but solid performances and a surprisingly sweet center will keep viewers watching - even if it's through their fingers.

Frayed wants to be a comedy but it's much darker, wonderfully melancholy and, occasionally, laugh out loud silly. Go to Full Review
David Sexton London Evening Standard 08/21/2020
Frayed is rude, direct and often quite painful to watch, rather than readily funny. Go to Full Review

A bit like Sammy, Frayed doesn't quite know what it wants to be. Somewhere among the sibling squalls and pungent punchlines, there's an almost-touching comedy - or comedy-drama? - about the limits of self-reinvention. Go to Full Review
Mandie Caroll Common Sense Media 08/21/2020
3/5
Teens will enjoy the young people's stories and seeing parents struggle to grow up, and adults will laugh and cringe as Sammy gets herself into absurd situations. A solid pick for older teens and adults. Go to Full Review

Frayed is extremely watchable, and Kendall - whose performance earned her a BAFTA nomination this year - is the comedic force propelling it forward. Go to Full Review

papa W @papaWongie Jul 7 July 7 AustraliaYum. Season 3 please! See more Therese C 07/17/2024 Very clever. One of those shows that looks simple but second viewing realized how cleaver Sarah Kendall is. Well done everyone. I think when u get to the end u realize that some of the sillier bits were more poignant than u first thought. See more Cath M 07/06/2023 Great series, funny, well acted... it is definitely different with some inappropriate stuff, but still a great laugh. Well worth the watch! See more 11/22/2021 Flawed but ultimately lovable characters, awful 1980's hairstyle fits the scene, great cast, and a fast-paced narrative. Laugh-out-loud moments and unexpected twists. Loads of fun, an incredible gem. I am looking forward to season 2. See more 11/16/2021 Frayed is a refreshingly gritty, re-take on 1980's Australia. Series one delivers fast-paced storylines carried by a great cast. The characters are broken, real, loveable and funny. Tune in for the rich, irreverent humour and satisfying character development. Discover sets, costumes, hair, moustaches and cars that are akin to a museum exhibit for 80's sun-bleached Australia. Frayed is like 'A Country Practice' on acid. On a hot summer's day. When you are dying to get into the ocean. But there is a rip. Go on. You know you want to. See more 11/09/2021 Unexpected gem! Can't wait for season 3! See more Read all reviews
