The season has struggled a bit in recent weeks to overcome the midseason torpor that settled in after episode four, and "Hardhome" tossed all of that aside like a giant tearing apart a wight.
After long stretches of table-setting, the show gives viewers what they want.
Although the series has had its rough patches this season, Sunday's episode "Hardhome" was not only a note-perfect game-changer in terms of story, but it had also better win all the Emmys for its visual battlefield buffet.
Overall, this was my favorite episode so far.
[Game of Thrones] had never given us spectacle on quite this scale, and certainly not with the intensity and relentlessness.
Let's talk about something pure and good. Namely, Tyrion Lannister's gold-plated advice.
To sum up: Winter isn't coming - it's here.
You knew something was coming the second Karsi put her girls on the boat and promised she would be right behind them.
Though it may seem "trendy" for Game of Thrones to hop on board the zombie wagon, it's important to remember that George R.R. Martin began writing this story back in the 1990s... before the zombie trend of this decade emerged.
Now that episode is why we watch Game of Thrones. It had everything: intrigue, cutting dialogue, people in despair, people finding inner strength.
