gen:LOCK Season 2 is long overdue on our screens, but sadly it feels like we’ve walked in to the middle of a story and it’s jarring. The animation and the character development are still completely on point. Go to Full Review

Артём May 7 The main character is a slimy cuck and Miranda is probably the worst, most insufferable character in the series See more Davia D 11/07/2023 You know when someone writers a fanfiction and they change a lot of the details to fit the story they want to tell? It's fine with fans do it on their own works but it's very odd when an official season 2's new writing staff takes the approach. Character personalities shift, heroic side characters become morally gray without explanation, factions change motive and ideology. Most of the changes are relatively small but there's a lot of them and it adds up. That's not even getting into some of the character choices, or the frankly random sex scene- something not present in S1. The voice acting is still solid, but on the whole it's a bizarre 'followup' that I can't recommend. I do recommend the comics instead, for a different followup. See more 03/23/2022 Taking a turn from a happier season one to a season addressing issues and furthering the normalization of minority groups instead of hidden secrets, and addressing mental illness, the only draw back is I cant give it more stars. See more 01/06/2022 Absolutely HBO-ified and ruined because of it. Took something youthful and fun and turned it dark dramatic and full of so much sex. Tell me, who is the target audience for this? Season 1 felt pretty clear it was for teenagers and young adults-- an audience shared with Roosterteeth fans. I find it inappropriate to take something with a initial audince of that demograhpic and ram Season 2 full of full frontal nudity and sex, rife with expletives and ‘shock factor' deaths that are treated so flatly. Season 2 dealt with suicide as a drive for plot and not only did no character know or care about what happened, but it ended up being the key to saving everyone. What kind of writing is that??? Everything about Season 1 was undone and it left gen:LOCK as a monolith of what's wrong with tv shows nowadays. Uncreative hamfisted content (did you seriously make a WMD Bush reference? How much more flagrant can you make this villain Elon Musk? Where did this Climate Change plot come from, now?) and replacement of spirit and fun with pretentious modern commentary. I boosted the score slightly because Season 2 still had a slight improvement in animation. See more 01/01/2022 I can't believe the downgrade this how go moving to HBO. The plot, acting and dialogue all were massive downgrades. The story was all over the place with either no explanation or horrible reasons why things were happening. Characters changing allegiances at the drop of a hat. Apparently, wanted it to be more "adult" because there is swearing just for sake of swearing. Rarely, did it serve a real narrative purpose. Then the completely out of place nudity. After a great season 1 of a fun giant mech anime I couldn't be more disappointed where the show went. See more 12/31/2021 Season 1 Great Show with giant Robot Mech fights where the cast is fighting a losing war but maybe they can pull through to defeat the enemy with teamwork... Season 2 .... yeah forget all of that they just make it horrible mess and make you no longer care about anyone... who's the good guys? we don't know and neither do they ... well who's the bad guys? Idk .... but i guess the polity .... do yourself a favor and treat it as one season only. See more Read all reviews
