Genera+ion: Season 1 (2021)

Season 1
Genera+ion

Critics Consensus

Genera+ion's salacious flourishes can feel more try-hard than authentic, but this inclusive portrayal of Gen Z shines when it identifies the universal pains of being a teenager.

Generation to say the very least is such an important show for todays day and age, and hell, even the generations before and after us. Giving a beautiful place marker for where we are now as Gen z teens and young adults. it teaches such a great emphasis on found family, and the struggles of a surviving gen z person. i really pray that hbo brings it back for season 2, not only because of the ending cliff hanger and other unanswered questions but because this is a genuinely amazing show that has already began to save lives just by its freshman season, which is off to a superb start. #renewgeneration

I thought this show is going to be awful but it's quite entertaining and funny.

I really enjoy it, it's got really diverse representation and teen drama, it really does feel like it covers many issues but it's also funny and the characters all have great chemistry. I keep recommending it to people.

Such an amazing show to see on HBO. Really shows this 30 year old that the next generation (no pun intended) has such awareness and inclusivity- fiction or not. Do recommend

Even though it might come across as try-hard since there's a lot of unnecessary social justice warrior talk and there's some topics that are introduced just because they're shocking, this show is not a Euphoria copy as I thought it would be. This show doesn't deal with conflicts nearly as dense as drug addiction, heavy trauma etc. It's much more about teenagers not knowing who they are, what they want and learing how to deal with certain circumstances. As a 19 year old, I'd say this is defenitely the most authentic representation of gen Z I've seen so far.

Best YA show I have seen in a long long time. Best portrayal of queer youth, Gen Z, young people in general, etc. I have seen in a long time. This show is important to it's audience, and absolutely deserves your attention and support.

this show is so important. speaking now as a twenty-something queer, this is what i needed in my high-school years and what every queer teenager, no, every queer person needs. the representation, the validation, the relatability....ugh its incredible. it's authentic portrayal of growing up and queer joy is so refreshing. it's unlike any other coming of age story. the honesty in the story telling makes genera+ion a unique and important show, a must watch. to say it deserves to be renewed for season 2 is an understatement, it simply must be renewed........"it's the queers time now, baby!"

I love this show! As a 19-year-old in America, I can honestly say this show represents my generation very well. The characters are well-defined and the plot of each episode is relatable and well-written. One thing I think the show does very well is the manner in which it represents the queer characters. As a gay man, it makes me feel seen. I love Riley and Chester's characters. The problems faced by these characters are very real and I can't get enough. I am really hoping for a Season 2 because I want MORE!!! :)
